SOURCE: Four Wheel drive not working. Blows fuses.

Your four wheel drive push button system has only 3 components, so there is a way to narrow down what is blowing the fuse:

the system includes the push button panel and indicator light, the shift control module, and the shift control motor.

The shift control motor is the only part that can draw enough current to blow the fuse. If for some reason the transfer case is jambed up, that could blow the fuse too...So if you are planning on attempting repair yourself:

first, unplug the connector off of the shift control motor, and see if the fuse still blows.. if not, then remove the shift control motor from the side of the transfer case and plug it back in to the harness and see if the fuse blows. If so, then the shift control motor is bad, if the fuse doesnt blow then you need to check out your transfer case.

The fuse in my 4 wheel drive keeps blowing. I drive in 2 wheel drive and then it blowswhen I switch gear or turn. why is that how do I fix it I already checked the acutater

Check your wiring in the circuit going to the actuator. You may have a short due to a rubbed wire with iunsulation missing.

1999 silverado stuck in 4lo. fuses keep blowing. how do i get it back into 2whee

isolate the reason for the dead short that keeps blowing the fuse. Look for a broken wire under body on a actuator or a wire that has rubbed through on the transmission .

Blows heater fuse when trying to engaging 4 wheel high. Plus no drive lights lighting up on shifted panel on floor when in 2 or 4 wheel drive

Check connections and the switch on the 4X4, it obviously is powered by the heater fuse and nothing will work if the fuses are blowing cutting power to the whole system

My 4x4 fuse keeps blowing. I put in a new one, shift into 4 wheel drive and it blows. Is it a short or could my 4 wheel drive be out. It is a 1994 chevy suburan.

Try this,on the front axle there is an actuator for the 4x4,unplug it and try to engage 4x4 with it unplugged,if the fuse doesn't blow, actuator is bad.
Also look at the wires going to the actuator they get damaged from brush and things.

1996 chevy 1500 z71. Keeps blowing fuse when trying to use push button 4 wheel drive. Note: 4- Low and 4-Hi stay lit and blinking before fuse blows. New actuator. New switch on transfer case. New transfer...

Cheak all wiring, one little **** in the wire will make a fuse blow. I had the same problem with my starter and i replaced the starter but it was still blowing the fuse, come to find out it wus a wire burnt into so cheak all wires carfully.
