I bought a used 98 gmc jimmy and when i put the automatic transmission in neutral, then press the 4 wheel high button it does nothing nor does the little light on the button. but when i push the 4 wheel low button the 4 wheel low and high lights on the buttons both plash twice then the 4 wheel low button lights up and you can hear the 4 wheel drive lock into place. and then when i put it into drive the four wheel low works fine, then i put it into neutral again and push 4 wheel high and it kicks it out of 4 wheel drive back to 2 wheel drive. my buddy says its this electrical box right on the front pumkin that has gone bad and it costs around 25$. is this the problem? cuz i dont want to go buy something that is not the problem. thanks for your time. and if this is the problem can you direct me to a good parts place who will have this part on stock.

well i went to autozone and the guy there said it was this thing on the side of the transfercase, it was on the driverside on top of the transfercase. the part i bought, it looked like a bolt that is hollowed out with a spring and ball inside it and on the other end is three plastic tubes at the end of it where the three vacuum hoses connect to and it did not fix the problem. the old one i took out the ball barely moved so i just left the new one in. another problem that i noticed was when i put it in 4wheel low is that the 4wheel low button did not light up and when i put it in drive the transmission only let me go 5mph at the most. so i kept pushing the buttons in and out of 4wheel low and then the 4wheel low button finally lighted up and when i put it into drive i could drive up to 35mph. does this mean something in my transfercase is not fully shifting it into 4wheel low? what could this be? the whole time 4wheel high still does not work and everytime i try to put it into 4wheel high the lights still flash and it kicks it back into 2wheel high. is it multiple problems? my dash buttons bad too? any info will be greatly appreciated. thanks
Sometimes when you push the button it will kick in other times it will not unless you disconnect to positive cable on the batters and then reconnect it
What does the N light mean on 4 wheel drive buttons
