I have an 05 v6 mustang and I just replaced the water outlet housing. Because it cracked on the side and water was coming out the back of the housing. Now my coolant fans won't come on, only when I run the ac. What could be the problem? I have changed the coolant temp sensor, and the thermostat.

Take it to your local dealer or authorized mechanic and have the vehicle scanned to determine potential fault.

fan motor may be bad. also could be a sensor. you can jump the fan motor off of the battery to see if it works.

SOURCE: 98 Mustang v6 - no AC

Make sure the radiator pressure cap is the correct one and that the hose is not soft--check the lower hose and heater hoses for softness as well. They should be firm, but not hard or cracking. The temperature sensor is reporting normal operating temperature, so it and the thermostat are working correctly (hot water would blow out of the radiator if it were stuck). Check the cooling fan for free turning and no noise. Check it's grounding connection. Check the fuse box for blown fuses to the fan and to the A/C compressor. Make sure all the relays and fuses are firmly pressed into their sockets. Check the A/C compressor clutch winding for resistance--should not read infinity. Does the blower motor for the heater/A/C run when either is turned on? The A/C switch on the dash may be defective.

I have an 2005 v6 mustang. I changed my water outlet housing, because it had cracked on the side. But after changing that now my coolant fans won't come on unless I am running the a/c. Can anyone point...

Is it over heating ? Hooking up a scan tool that can view sensor data to see what the PCM - engine computer see's as far as what the temp is . The PCM turns on the the fans . The fact that when you use the A/C an the fans come on ,tells me the PCM is controlling the fans .. The PCM will turn on the fans when engine temp.reaches 213 degress .

Wht is the plastic housing that the upper radiator hose goes to mine is leaking and cracked

This is called the water outlet housing or coolant air bleeder. It may be mistaken as the thermostat housing when indeed the thermostat housing is at the lower hose on these engines . Dorman Products makes an aftermarket replacement however I always do recommend an original replacement part from the dealer . To replace first make sure engine is cold then drain coolant, disconnect upper hose at the housing. Next you may have to loosen and lift the intake plenum to gain access to the rear bolts of the housing. This does require some special skills as there are usually support brackets in the rear of the plenum that connect to block or cylinder head. Once removed you must thoroughly clean the surface with a scraper and then a fine sandpaper. Last ,be sure to properly fill and bleed your cooling system . This is a very common problem with these cars. Good Luck !

Temperature swings. I have a '96 mustang 3.8L V6. When leaving in the morning and the engine is heating up, the temperature guage will swing over almost to the 'H', then swing back almost to the 'C', then...

Make sure all the air is bled out of the cooling system they are bad about air being traped. There should be a bleed around the thermastat housing crack it open let engine run until normal temp and steady flow of coolant then tighten up and top off with coolant.

How difficult is it to change a thermostat in a 2002 Ford Focus?

The Thermostat Housing is located on the right hand side of the engine. Remember this is FWD configuration so think of it as being mounted on the "rear" of the engine in terms of normal V6, V8, L6, etc.

Trace the radiator hose (right side of radiatoras you are looking from the front of the engine) and you will find it leads to the "water outlet" on the thermostat housing. There are a total of 4 hoses attached to the Thermostat Housing. It is a black plastic (OEM) housing held onto the engine by 3 bolts. Note: ther are 3 Torx screws visible, they for the water outlet housing and can be worked on while the Thermostat Housing is off of the engine. Plastic can easily crack/score so be gentle whe removing the hoses and hardware.

This housing is notorious for leaking even when a new gasket (O-Ring) is installed. I suggest dressing the housing mount surface with a small bead of grey RTV along with a new gasket prior to installing. Be sure to use only a small bead in an effort not to get excess into the housing or to foul the gasket.

My 05 v6 mustang coupe 44,000 miles. the cd

I had this problem in my 05 GT at about 50K miles, and had to get the stereo replaced. (It was covered by my extended warranty.) They have to send the old unit back to the factory to get the CDs out but will get them back to you when in a week or 2.

1998 mustang gt coolant leak

I just had the same problem. Ford design the intake manifold with plastic water crossover which cracks. The coolant will leak onto the top of the block and and then down the back of the engine. This intake design is a known defect and was ocvered under by Ford for 7 years past the date of mfg. The crack either is in the crossover or the thermostat housing. I happed on this when I found the same leak and traced it back to the thermostat housing. I changed the thermostat, but it leaked worse. You can pickup a aftermarket for $200 and it's about 4-6 hr job to replace.
