Check Pin #16 on the Data Link Connector (DLC) for battery voltage. (See Diagram)

If there is no battery voltage present check the fuse marked "OBD II" in the engine compartment fuse block. It is a 10 Amp fuse. If the fuse is good, repair the circuit between the fuse and pin #16 at the DLC.
If battery voltage is present at Pin 16 at the DLC, check for ground at pin 4 on the DLC. If ground is not present, repair the ground circuit between the DLC and Ground G202 located at the left side of the dash.
HINT: the easiest way to check BOTH of these at the same time is to use paper clips plugged into pin #16 and Pin #4 and connect a light bulb between the two. If the light illuminates brightly, power and ground are both OK.
If no problem with power or ground is detected at the DLC, check the Owner's Manual for your code reader.

It is on a fuse ! check all fuses good, it could be on the cig, lighter. does it work !

    Carl,
Good answer, but not on this one. This vehicle is equipped with a fuse that supplies nothing but the DLC.

Question: Do you ever look stuff up before answering questions? I don't mean to be rude, but I have seen you do this a lot. I know you are just trying to help. However, you would be much more help to people if you make sure that the information you are giving applies to the vehicle we are talking about.

I have not gotten this far by not knowing what I am doing. I do not have a garage setting, I just answer questions that I possibly know. SORRY! and have a very good day

Can't find a OBD2 Scanner for 2009 Suzuki sx4 that checks SRS. Many scanners say they will work but they don't.

Unfortunately, how good an OBD2 scanner is often depends on how much it cost to buy! The cheapest scanners usually only scan for the most common trouble codes. The much more expensive ones tend to cover much more detailed lists of codes. Some can be set to work on specific vehicle makers. I have a scanner that I paid nearly £200 for.
There are certain codes that will only be readable on a Dealership system but these tend to be the more serious issues.

2003 ford windstar changed all plugs and wires and coil pack still getting misfires, running rough and loses power when check engine light starts flashing, then stops when check eng. light stop...what

Andrews answer is correct check the codes and after you might find your crankshaft or camshaft synchronizer sensor is shot or the idle air control valve is not maintaining an idle high enough and is failing while trying to keep the engine running

What if the scan is from 1988? Because I went to do it and they said they can't because the year of the car

You can scan any vehicle from 1980 on
You use a scanner or code reader for obd1 up until 1995
then an obd 2 one
You don't get much when your in the world of free

Why does the obd2 not connect to my car after i plug it in it said it cant connect 1995 pontiac firebird 3.4.

OBD1 1981 thru 1995

OBD2 1996 thru 2014

You should not be able to connect an OBD2
cable to your car, need OBD 1 cable & software

Google the question & try You Tube Video, to see
how to check your make for codes

Need to change the rear coil/spark plugs on Ford escape 2006. Need engine diagram to do it.

Need to remove upper intake manifold

You can see the coils on the front or left bank

I'm referring to a V6

1,2,3 right side of motor -next to firewall
4,5,6 left side of motor-next to radiator

If you have a v6 do the 3 coils while your there & intake is off
& save them for some time you need them on the left side

We have no diagrams

A code PO301 thru PO306 does not mean a coil is bad

Watch" Wayne"on Real Fixes Real Fast ---on You Tube

You get the plugs & coils from Rock Auto.Com unless
you like spending more at the parts store

Spark Plugs--every 3 years
O2 Sensors--front ones only--100,000 miles
Gas filter & Air Filter -3 years
Trans & Power Steering Fluids -3 years or failure isn't far away

Try to use th OE Brand Plugs on a ford
The tip configuration etc is important
Because it show ten plugs that fit they may
not work well

I would have the motor checked with professional
scan tool software in Mode #06 & look for cylinder
misfire on a road test of 20 miles, before I did any
of the work your going to do. That may show you some
failing coils. Codes are next to uselss
I have had to walk new coils form one cyl to the next
even when the scanner didn't pick up anything

You don't really have a mechanic that has much knowledge

Without the vehicle to test drive & do some testing on it,
there is no way to just guess & I suspect you wouldn't
understand any of our suggestion anyway.

Find the best established shop, one that has been in the same
family for 20 or 30 years

You have to go on a road test with these people before you
leave a vehicle. Be part of the solution,go to the shop on a
supprise visit & as a lot of questions, walk into the service bay

If that isn't some they want you doing take your vehicle &
go elsewhere.
So what test tools they have, study obd2 on internet & have some
trick questions ready to fire off.
