2006 gmc envoy issue started about a week ago check engine light is present as well
I had the same problem. My gas gage would read full and as I drove the gage would read empty; even when I had a full tank of gas. All I had to do is buy a new gas cap... yes that is all! $15.00 and a day later the gas gage is fixed.
A fuel sending unit seems to be the most popular solution. the part is about $40. I think the labor is what's going to kill you.

I have the same problem with mine. The dealer told me it is the fuel sensor in the tank and will run me about $500 to fix it since my warranty is expired.
My gas gauge just started doing this today.. i have a 2005 envoy. no warranty left. i filled up the gas this morning, and when i start the truck it goes all the way up like it should, but slowly goes down as i'm driving. so frusterating.
