There should be two buttons associated with your readouts, NORMALLY one will change the readout, trip miles, fuel usage, etc, the other is normally for changing from imperal to metric (miles to kilometers) on MOST vehicles if you put it on the trip miles screen and hold down both buttons for a few seconds it will reset, some vehicles will even beep to let you know that you have reset your readouts.

If it is part of the Ford "MYlink" system you can forget it. It is an integral part of the car's ignition and timing system. To try to disable it will render the car undriveable. You can shut the interface down so you don't have to use the gps, but it is like a cellphone. It is built into the car and all information must pass through the system so that it can calculate fuel levels, mileage, eta etc.

On your dash the letters CO or CS show in the Distance to Empty (DTE) information center. there is a problem with the fuel level indicating system. Most likely the Fuel level sensor has failed, or is not completely as accurate as it needs to be for the DTE function to work. The fuel level sensor would most likely need replacing. Replacing the sending unit requires removing the fuel tank. If you choose to repair this issue i recommend replacing the fuel pump and strainer while you are there.

The DTE is automatic and is the result of your previous miles per gallon multiplied by the gallons of gas registered in your tank.

Unlike the Trip miles, this DTE number can not be reset. It will vary by the fuel mileage per gallon recorded at each startup. That is why if you filled the tank and showed 400DTE you may have had 20 Gallons multiplied by 20 MPG. But if your new average is 16 MPG then it would show 320 DTE.

If you know a clock spring is bad why are you here?

It means Distance To Empty..and will have a number by it referring to kms left before u run out..mine is malfunctioning and I would like to know how to reset it or get rid of it

Hi Aamer, Salaam, When the vehicle has the ignition switched off the visible readout is also turned off but power feeds the clock memory. Once you restart the vehicle the visible read out is illuminated and the figures become visible. If however the clock needs to be reset each time you start the vehicle, that means that the power feeding the memory of the clock has failed, which usually means a broken cable or a bad contact. i would say its the gauge sender,but the problem is its inside the fuel tank,so it looks like a job for the garage.adrian,,,,,,

Check to make sure that you aren't changing between km/mph readings. I had the same problem when it was 90 degrees out side and the temp was registering in the thirties. It's the button on the left, should say something about KM/IMP or something...
