Transmission on my 1999 ES 300.

My transmission went out on my 99 ES300 and my Lexus dealer said that they do not repiair tranny's just replace them. That is an expensive proposition. $4500,
I have taken my car to an AAMCO.shop.
Hope I made the right choice.
I am also wondering if 113,000 miles is early for a transmission failure. I am the original owner.
Any advice to keep the this from happening again?
I check all my fluids and never had a leak.etc.

Just yesterday I took my 99Lexus ES300 to an AAMCO station b/c check engine light was on and my car accelerates and stalls while driving. Diagnostic check says it is transmission. The Lexus dealer said they replace transmissions only at base $4000, AAMCO said they would rebuild approx $2000. Just wondering if this price is reasonalble for a rebuild? The car has 176K mi.

Flush the fluid every 30-45k miles. I work for lexus and they make solid cars and transmissions but some es300 transmissions from that year range fail (a very small percent) they do only replace transmissions. After the replacement the cars are fine, its not necessarily anything the owner did.Ive seen mixed results from shops that rebuild these transmissions as they don't do them everyday, those shops see alot more gm ford and chrysler vehicles and many of their models fail before 100k.

Problem w/transmission Lexus ES300 1999

Is your O/D off? There should be a light under your speedometer, if it says "O/D OFF" than your car wont go to fourth gear. You can turn the overdrive back on on the knob that changes gears, theres a little button on the side. Press it and you should be good.

Lexus 2001 ES300 transmission or sensor troubles? On a drive out of town, my car kept losing acceleration but the RPMs were off the chart, even while in park. I had it towed to the Lexus dealer in that...

I have read about a transmission control module and a shifting valve that cause erratic transmission problems. There may even be a recall. Check with a LEXUS dealer, not the shop that is trying to rip you off. I bet the tranny would be worse after their rebuild, toyota makes VERY tough automatic transmissions.
