SOURCE: i have a peugeot 206 gti the clutch has gone but

i have been fixing peugeots for 12 years and never heard anything like that.
it is mrer then likley a faulty crank position sensor, coil pack or quite simply the fuel cut off switch needs resetting which should be located under the bonnet on the n/s (black unit with a red rubber top) just press the top and try starting the car..

if this helps let me know
cheers

Was told that the trans or engine would need to come out to replace the flywheel in my 98 continental.? Is that correct? Saw another suggestion from Colin Strickland here on fixya. See added details.

flywheel teeth get damaged in 3 places for 6 cyl or 4 for v8 If the teeth are damaged then the fix is a replacement ring gear
now if the car is automatic it will not have a flywheel as the torque convertor does that job
there is a flex plate bolted instead to the crank shaft and inturn bolted to the torque converter
They are kown to develope faults and crack off at the crank shaft so that they become warped ( not allowing full pinion engagement) or dreak off altogether and not turn the crank at all
The thrust bearings on the crank generally do not fail as they run in oil all the time so disregard that suggestion( if the thrust bearing was to fall ot completely , the added movement is 1/8 " and the pinion would still engage a good ring gear)
Now the teeth have to be replaced so for an automatic it is a new flex plate ( box out )
for a manual it is flywheel off and a new ring gear fitted to the flywheel ( box out )
check the pitch of the teeth of the new starter
the movement of the pinion can be checked by an accredited auto electrician and adjusted by the encentric pivot pin in the solenoid fork
So what ever happens the box has to come out for the repair

I have rattle and grinding noises, can feel intermittant fibrations while foot on clutch and a whisteling sound when revving while parked or excellerating while driving. oil lightc comes on and off...

Don't think its the flywheel, but maybe a worn out thrust bearing. I suggest you replace your clutch plate and have the pressure plate checked at the same time you replace the thrust bearing.

Jeep YJ stalls while clutch is depressed

thrust bearings are bad and the flywheel is moving out of range of the crankshaft sensor, or the crankshaft sensor is sitting too close to the flywheel.

Audi a3 1.9 tdi 2006 had the full clutch replaced has there was a loud metal on metal chaffing noise , was told it could be the thrust bearing on the clutch , still the problem is there after i have been...

You should take it back to where the clutch was done. They should have check the thrust bearing, flywheel and everything else associated with the clutch when they replaced it.

Cant select gears in my escort gti, the thrust bearing is winding

this sounds like the throwout breaing is going or gone bad and may have lost it purpose of controling the pressure plate, by not being able to select a gear tells me something has gone bad in the clutch system like the bearing which pushes the pressure plate to release the cluch which allow ****** to stop spinning so that the gear can be selected. the repair for this would be to replace the clutch kit. the clutch pack will come with new bearing clutch disc and pressure plate and if needed a polit bushing, the whining noise was a warning that something in the cluch system was going bad.

WHERE IS THE GEARBOX THRUST BEARING ON A 2003 JETTA TDI SITUATED AND HOW DO YOU REPLACE IT. WHEN THE CAR IDLES THERE IS A SOUND COMING FROM THE GEARBOX AT THE PREASURE PLATE SIDE. WHEN CLUTCH IS ENGAGED...

This sounds more like a DMF problem (dual mass flywheel) If the car has more than 80K on it.. or the clutch was replaced but the flywheel was not.. you probably have one or more weakened springs in the DMF.

The throw out/thrust bearing is located between the pressure plate and and the transmission itself.

Best of luck

Hi I own a peugeot 206 gti 180. It has recently

Check the drop link and sway bar (anti roll bar) bushes also the knock could be in the strut top or the strut itself, maybe disconnect the drop link to the sway bar and drive over a pothole and see if the knock is still there.

Peugeot 206 2001 GTI

Check the alternator belt for proper tension. Also check alternator voltage output. If output is low the rest of the systems can fail.
