My boyfriend hooked a toggle switch up to my fan in my 97 dodge neon, he got the fan to work, but now my car won't start! We thought it just drained the battery, so we tried to jump it, but that didn't work. I have power to my lights, but nothing else. The radio won't even come on. When you try to start it, it doesn't even make a sound. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong w/ my car??
Where did he get the power from to run the fan,if he just used a hot wire from inside the car it most likely blew the fuse for ignition as the engine fan gets its power from a relay in the power distribution box under the hood as far as the fan goes if it ran with the wire then the engine coolant temp sensor is probably bad

Hi savvyuserbyo;
That tick, tick sound is probably the starter solenoid trying to activate the starter.
Here's a couple of things you can try. Take a hammer and tap the starter motor (not real hard, just medium) and then try to start it.
The 2nd thing you can do it to take a piece of wire, like lamp cord and(with someone helping) touch one end to the small terminal on the starter. (There is a large battery size wire connected to a large terminal on the starter, this is not the one you use) use the small terminal. Have your helper touch the other end to the positive terminal of the battery.
If the engine cranks. the solenoid is probably bad. If it doesnt crank the starter is bad.
The final thing to do is to remove the starter (after you disconnect the ground lead of the battery) and take it to an Auto Zone type store and have them check it out for you. BTW, starter and solenoid are sold as a unit. I just replace mine on my 94 F159 and is cost $100 exchange. If you need a replacement get a rebuilt rathert than a new. Just as good and cheaper.
Hope this helps Good Luck Loringh PS Please leave a rating if Appropriate. Thanks
SOURCE: 1998 Dodge Stratus won't start
there is a 20 amp fuse under the hood that blew on my 96 stratus that caused the same problem. check that out, maybe the same thing. good luck.

First thing is check you accessory fuse located on the driver side of the dash. Or you may actually have to check the OWNERs Manual to see what fuse does what. The back of the fuse door usually has fuse schematics. If neither of these are available use an Ohm meter to check continuity on the fuses. Change with SAME fuse rating if there is no continuity between the poles.

Have you checked the starter relay on the fuse panel? Hope it helps. Good luck
SOURCE: Dodge Neon 2005) Car will not start.
I was having the same exact problem with my 2005 neon as well. The guy at Discount auto suggested the starter itself was the problem(cost approx $200). The car isn't old enough to be having a starter issue so I figured it was something more simplilar. My dad took a look and founf out it was the starter relay. It is located in the black fuse/relay box on the driver's side right next to the battery. I had to get a new relay at the dealership(cost $20) and my car starts perfectly. Hope this helps

Hi Tara Lay, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Check the main fuses. He probably burned a fuse. Give him a hug, so he knows you appreciate him trying.
