97 Jeep 4.0L is losing power driving down the road - manual

I thought it was the cap and rotor, coil wire was melted to the cap, changed it. the jeep will top out at 55 - 60 mph(thats with the petal to the floor), i have to shift into 4th gear to keep up with traffic. in 5th gear in will not go over 2000 rpm's, but it does in all the other gears. maybe the exhaust plugged?

It was the converter, the innerds was a prefect softball shape. Everytime I got on the throttle it would completely block the exit hole. Thanks guys!!

Yup...very likely plugged exhaust or restricted fuel filter or weak fuel pump. Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and reproduce the problem...make sure pressure doesnt drop below 35-40 psi. If pressure is good loosen exhaust in front of the cat converter and go for another drive (noisy) see if the power comes back. Cats are more likely to plug up than mufflers

Yes, it is possible that the exhaust is plugged, and more specifically, it could be at the cat. converter. You would need someone to disconnect the exhaust system where the header pipe connects to the exhaust manifold, then drive it. If it preforms good, check converter or muffler. I have seen both at fault.

Jeep is dieing while driving down the road --showing codes 37 and 43

Check your plugs, wires cap and rotor. Also check the coil output. You may have an engine misfire caused by one of those items. Also...have you had any problems starting the car that requires you to move the shifter in order to get the starter to engage? 37 code may be related to that.

When was the last time you tuned up your Jeep? Spark plugs, cap and rotor can certainly attribute to if not cause the problem you are describing. Definitely sounds like a fuel problem (too much fuel being dumped in the cylinders.)

1988 Jeep Cherokee 5 liter motor straight 6. Runs one day, and then the next day, no power to the spark plugs. It seems to have a mind of its own. Even while driving, it seems to lose power to the spark...

At the age of you Jeep I would be looking at a worn ignition switch (The part that turns when you turn the key). They wear out causing a very intermitant connection some times it works and some times it doesn't ,Going over a small bump in the road is often enough to break the connection causing the engine to stop.
Start the engine and try gently wiggling the key and see if it dies.....
Hope this helps.

Causes for no spark on 94 jeep cherokee please

Well it could be many things, But have you relpaced the dist. cap and rotor, within the last 15,000 miles or wires and plugs??? next step is the coil ? then it gets fun. like timing. but I think most jeeps with a Inline 6 have a bullet proof engine for the most part. As we all know there is plenty of semi's on the road. well the same set up is there. as an Inline Jeep. I would have to say 90% of semi's on the road are inline 6 cyl. engines. and may of them go to 1million miles.
so plugs, wires, cap, rotor and ignition coil. that is a good starting point.
