2004 Jeep makes a roaring sound when first started

When I first start my 2004 Jeep Rubicon, after it has been sitting over night it makes a loud roaring sound. Kind of sounds like a jet. But the sound quickly goes away after driving a short distance. There are no codes being indicated. The Jeep is completely stock with 130K miles. Any ideas or suggestions? Bill

SOURCE: Loud air intake engine noise on startup

If the check engine light is on, there is a bulletin out on the air pump that is possibly your problem. I'm dealing with that same issue.

SOURCE: oil consumption, rattle, engine noise

Check under the hood and inspect the valve cover gasket. If it's bad it would explain why you don't see any leaks on the ground because it's probably burning off on the manifold. This ticking you're hearing is a lack of lubrication to the rocker arms. Apart from the valve cover gasket, you should get under the car and inspect the oil pan and oil filter for seepage. Best of luck on your problem.

SOURCE: Clicking noise on acceleration

I know how to fix you're problem.... Get some Fosgate 12'inch sub woofers With a 2 channle amp and some Boston speakers with a 4 channle amp ,. :) You Will NEVER hear the sound again.... . :)

I don't think it's a normal sound at all but, ........................... I can't really tell you, seeming i didn't build the car lol , Does it make the sound after the car is off?

And if it is normal..... Then you should go get a Corolla lol

Did you ask them why it makes the sound it does? And what did they say? I seem to find most people that work at the dealers are morons. And all they do is well... we can check it out for you 200$.. lol Then tell you we couldn't find it, :<

Best of Luck

I had a similar issue where the alarm went off, pulled the battery to silence, and upon re-connecting it the Jeep wouldn't start. It's a protection mechanism built into the security system to prevent tampering/bypassing the system. The computer goes into lockdown and won't start...

To clear it you have to reconnect the battery and leave it sit. It's supposed to be a 60min cycle, but it seemed like it took longer for me. I plugged it in before leaving for work (in my wife's vehicle) and she tried starting it several hours later when she needed to run an errand and it started right up.

2004 Jeep Rubicon lockers dont work when warm. in

sounds to me that you may be having air pump issues, or your having rocker switch issues, I would lean toward the pumps though, just replaced mine in my 03 rubicon and problem solved, also insect the vacuum hoses going to each locker, make sure they dont have any holes/ cracks
