It is running on 1 or 2 cylinders, irratic idle, light surge, doesn't want to stay started, flat on the floor sitting still doesn't go over 3000 rpms
Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. you will see a small black cap like you find on a tire. unscrew it and you should see a pin in the middle and the valve will look exactly like the valve on a tire where you put air in. take a small nail or key or something and gently push the pin down while the key is in the on postion.BE CAREFUL AS GAS WILL SHOOT OUT OF THE VALVE!! Make sure you listen close if air comes out with the gas.Keep holding pin down til all air is out and only gas is shooting out. this should solve your problem if not try again and if you have more air in fuel line then you have a leak in fuel line

I ran into this concern with my 2002 and my wife ran into the almost identical problem with her 2003. this may sound silly,, but it was the clutch fan. Extreme loss of power from time to time came first. Then a roar of the what seemed like the engine when stopping. Actually cut off after it started to roar at highway speeds, and had absolutely no excelleration from time to time. Sometimes all of the symptoms completely went away. After taking mine to the dealer several times, finally they got it right and replaced the fan clutch. When my wifes 2003 SLt started doing the exact same thing as my 2002 had done, we both knew what the problem was, and the dealer did a quick fix. $600.00. Perhaps this should have been a recall feature, but never was. Everyone that I know that has an envoy, somewhere around the 72,000 and 103,000 mile mark has had this problem and have had to have the clutch fan replaced. It may sound like the vehicle is going to have to be junked,, but that is all it needs.

premium gas is a waste of money. domestically produced and sold cars are actually calibrated for econo gas. well, based on what you told me and the type of vehicle, i'd invest in some well-needed maintainence (COMPLETE tune up with AC Delco platinum plugs, fuel filter, air filter, pcv, cap and rotor) don't skimp on cap quality either- told ya -they're problem-prone. BUT with the "check gauges" light coming on, my bet is you're experiencing the warning signs of imminent fuel pump failure. gas gauge been bouncing or not reading accurately?

sounds like the throttle plate is stuck try cleaning is out do not push on the throttle plate will damage it. have some one sit in the vehicle with their foot on the pedal take a tooth brush and some carb cleaner clean both side of the plate and inside the housing the best you can and see if the stops it.

First check the air filter for restrictions.
Second try cleaning the throttle body. It will build up a carbon deposit around the throttle plate.
Third you may consider having the pcm program updated. The program does have changes for various things including the fan clutch. It can stay engaged.

Clean your Throttle body and pay attention to the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve passageway to try to clean the IAC. A dirty or faulty IAC will cause your engine to stall at idle, the job of the IAC is to open the passage way through the throttle body to regulate the amount of air to enter the engine to keep it from stalling when the Envoy is at idle.
Start with the simple and clean the throttle body and inspect any loose or damaged wire leads to the throttle body. Replace or repair any signs of damage.
Thank you for using Fixya and good luck.

We have changed the fuel filter, cam sensor and crank sensor.
I have heard of the clutch fan being an issue before, but it almost sounds like it's out of timing some how! Also, check your alternater. when gone bad, they tend to do weird thing to the vehicle! (bad diodes)
