Mostly your MAF MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR needs cleaning.
1st Disconnect the battery ground cable
then open the engine air cleaner.

  • Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector.
  • Release the air cleaner clamp.
  • Separate the inlet side from the outlet side of the air cleaner.
  • Remove the MAF assembly.
  • Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector.
  • Remove the nuts and separate the MAF sensor from the MAF sensor plate.

Water jackets pretty tight on heads. Replacing engine right now for this problem on customer work van. Pull plugs and look for any cylinders with antifreeze in them. This truck had 250k and same problem.

Honestly you should send it into the dealer. I don't think guessing will help you. Typically it is a dirty connection into the steering column (behind the ignition key) But diagnostics need to be run and a look at the VSS system (through a good scan tool) is needed to confirm.

I have a 2004 AWD endevor. I was going down the road and then the rpm's started to shoot up along with the speedometer. But I was not accelerating, when I put it in park and made a huge clanking noise....

Sounds like you have a failed CV joint. Set the brake, chock the wheels and have someone look at the CV shafts while the car is in gear. I bet one of them is rotating because the CV joint is broken. You can get remanufactured, and new CV shafts quite inexpensively.

Check the fuel pressure regulator.
by starting the car with your foot on the accelerator pedal half the way if it starts and continue running while you are holdining yore foot on and stops as soon as you take it off the accelerator .
then change the fuel pressure regulator it is located under hood in the rear side at top of the engine.

This may been an ignition module or a MAF sensor, this car may need to be diagnosed using a OBD I computer code reader to accurately diagnose the problem.
