The van will not shift out of park when started.

  • Neutral safety switch sends a signal to the on-board computer to allow the engine to start and to engage the transmission
  • When not replaced, vehicle may experience no start and/or transmission will not shift out of park. Here's the part Damon.

Is 1700 a reasonable repair cost for a 2003 ford windstar tourque converter replacement?

I would check around and get a few more estimates. Seems a little steep to me.

Driving a 2003 Ford windstar. Went to pass and

Very common on this make and model trans, pump drive splines inside torque converter strip out and pump is not turning, Most times there is no damage to pump shaft. Remove trans and remove torque converter, inspect the splines at the very bottom of the hub hole. If stripped out inspected pump shaft splines which are the smaller center splines coming out of trans, if ok replace torque converter and re-install trans, change out fluid, clean any metal from magnet and replace filter, fill with fluid and verify proper operation.

Transmission has trouble shifting up. Possible slipping.

If the transmission is not shifting properly it's important to get to a repair shop as soon as possible. Go to a reputable transmission shop. If you can catch some of this stuff early you can avoid costly hard parts failure.

Ford windstar van, 2003

I had a small plastic piece replaced in the transmission and it solved the problem(2007). My car was still under warranty, so it only cost me about $100.00. The actual cost was closer to $900.00 because of the labor involved. I used the Ford Dealer in Schulenburg, Texas. They would know exactly what you are talking about, if you ask them.

Transmission

No not at all, find a good transmission tech near you and have it checked out, it could only be a small fault but if not attended to it will need a $2000.00 repair
