Question about 2002 Saturn L-Series
New bearings, fuel pump, catylitic converter, now new starter-had a new battery that sat connected for 5mths till 2 days ago put the new starter in and that sitting new battery wouldnt crank it over, not even by jumping it with cables from another car-took that 5mth old sittin battery back, and got a new one-if this new battery doesnt start car or crank over new starter, what do i do next? i have replaced so many key and major componets and car in great shape to not keep going til car is fixed! ran hot and low/no oil and spun bearings-replaced them, cple lifters, and starter end up being bad-put new starter in cause i tried the new battery 5mths ago and it still just clicked-but had to tow it out to a lot and it sat for 5mths until 2 days ago,put new starter in and it seemed not enough battery to crank it over-tried jumping yesterday and same thing-so took that battery back and now have new 1 to put in with the new starter in it now-if this does not start car,i dont know what else to do? its like the whole car has all new parts, and only has 98,000 miles with just basically having the whole bottom engine rebuilt, and all these new parts,i even think the alternator is only 2 yrs old-i need this car running and have sunk alot money into it to not keep trying to fix- HELP!!!!!
A good hot battery shoulde do it. Have you had any problems with the security system? That's all that should keep it from starting now. Have you put a socket on the crank bolt to make sure the engine is not seized and turns freely?

SOURCE: Car is giving me lots of trouble
cables for starting your car carry the supply to the starter from the battery if they are loose or burnt no
power will get trough to turn over your car and will not charge the battery try all the small things first
fuse holders are clean and thight all cables are ok clean not burnt

Your cat is plugged, its not letting your exhaust leave the engine thus causing all these problems. You need to get it changed as soon as possible. You can get a shop to put in a universal one they are usually very cheep but do it soon. They can get hot enough to start a fire as you have already seen.

SOURCE: possible bad alternator?
I went through three alternators before we found a good one for our saturn sl2. Now she has been good for two years. All I did was go back to where we bought it from, they hooked up the alternator to a machine and gave us a new one when it read that it was faulty.

SOURCE: 98 saturn sl1 won't start
If the problem occurs after the car has been driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature, the problem is the starter. If the 'no crank' occurs cold, retest the battery.

the ignition maybe bad are the car is not all the way in park also check the battery to make sure it has a good charge and it does not have a bad cell in it and the terminals are clean.
