I replaced a blown brake light fuse several weeks ago with no perils. Today, I noticed that the brake lights had stopped working again, only to find another fuse had blown. Now, when I attempt to replace the stop (brake) light fuse, the ignition starts. I have bought a new brake light switch, but have not replace the old one yet. Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

did u check that they not burn?if not you should Check the wires going into the steering column if you don't have separate turn signal lights and brake lights because if they use the same bulb then the turn signal may be bad. If I remember correctly that particular car doesn't work this way, but I include it just in case.

Try the fuel filter. Sounds like the engine might be running rough due to weak fuel pressure. Its cheaper to replace, especially if it's still original from 04. Try running some injector cleaner through a couple of tanks of high octane gas.

One of two things cause this corroded or poor chassis earth at the bulb holders or the circuit board that holds the bulb is faulty.

I had a similar problem several years ago on my 97 Jimmy. There is a switch in the steering column that had gone bad, had to be replaced and no problem since. The symptons sounded just like yours. My trusted mechanic found the problem after a lot of testing and fixed it.
