I have a 1999 ford explorer and the check engine light came on. I used my code checker and discovered the cam sensor was bad. After replacing the cam sensor and the synchronizer it cured the problem. But now when I turn on the heater or A/C it starts missing and check engine light comes back on saying the cam sensor is bad???

You might have a ground circuit some where affecting the cam sensor. Consider checking the wiring around the cam sensor. Check fuses.

SOURCE: Code #P0171 & code #P0174

The most common problem on a Ford with these codes is deteriorated PCV hoses. Check the hoses from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. Pay special attention to the rubber elbows. They often crack on the inside curve and the crack is hard to see.

SOURCE: 96 Ford truck engine lIght will not go away.

this is the problem with code readers they bwill tell you the code and sometimes even have a reset feature. However they do not tell you the parameters and don't have an drivability feature so you can not test the ecm and all the sensors or modules while engine is running. diagnostic scan tools are very expensive and hard to use unless you have been trained to do so and PEP BOYs is not what I call real reliable mechanics to begin with. Now I concure with toddG on his reasoning in what might be the potential fault. if your vehicle is running rich or lean your O2 sensor will pick this up on the exaust side, however it is not the sole sensor responsible for the ecm adjusting the fuel air mixture.. you stated that you have switched out several o2 sensors and the fuel pressure regulator, but there is also you mass air flow sensor, your TPS sensor, as well as your map sensor these are worth checking out and just because a faulty sensor is the problem doesn't mean you will get a code each time. the system is built with redundancy in order to keep the vehicle running. in order to get the best possible diagnois take it to a shop where they have a full diagnostic scanner this will have not only OBD1 and OBD2 but cam protocol as well. while the tech is scanning the vehicle he will be able to see how the engine is performing under realtime conditions. please rate this as well as change the rating for toddg because he did offer a valid suggestion

The intake manifold gaskets need replacement as well as the o-rings inside - if you call FORD they should be able to get you the correct parts.

Check the wire harness near the top of the engine in the rear. They were good for rubbing through on the trans fill tube bracket. Judging by the code you have 4 sensors. you would be interested in the drivers side rear sensor.

92 Ford Explorer XLT runs good for 15 minutes, then suddenly starts 'chugging,' loses power, and check engine light comes on.

Have the fault codes read again and get the code numbers so that we can identify if possible the causes for your problem. IN most codes recorded there are a list of possible causes for example if he said possible crank position sensor=== there is also the cam position sensor --wiring --ECM--HO2S sensor --MAF/MAP/VAF sensors that come into the equation

1998 v8 eddie bauer ford explorer does not start at all

Does the engine turn over? If the starter is turning the motor, then your issues are going to be no fuel, no spark. If not fuel means that your fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter is bad (common issues first). If you have fuel and no spark then your coils are bad, crankshaft position sensor, cam shaft position sensors are bad. Are there any check engine lights on? If so read the codes with a scanner. If not, then you are going to have to check electrical with a multi-meter to see what the problems may be.

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer and am having problems with my sensors. Help

You should first check to see if the engine light on your dashboard has came on showing you that there is a problem with your engine. If your engine light is one then you can use a sensor hand held machine to check the OBD codes at Advance Auto Parts store near you unless you have a machine and know how to use one to check this yourself. The codes will show you which sensors have went bad and needs replaced. If you someone you know of is mechanically inclined that after you have done this to come back here and I myself can tell you how to find this part sensor in your vehicle and replace it.

Cam position sensor broke

ok easy fix. this is common on ALL ford w this style cam sensor,3.0 eats them for lunch. the sensor base has bushings like a real distributor, they get wore and fail. you can get new from ford, or reman at auto parts about 100 bucks. they come w the sensor installed but as with either, you need the allginment tool, looks like a little hockey puck, that only come from ford to set up or check engine light wont shut off. it will run without this but poorly. if you need more advice just post a comment to this and ill do my best to advise you
