Thermastat diagram install

usually your fuse box cover has a diagram inside the cover but also if you have a maual too it should show in there too. You should check the thermastat because if this does not open up to allow the coolant inside the engine to keep it cool then its most likely the thermastat. The fans usually comes on at a much higher temperature then the thermastat comes open and then the fans comes on after that usually its like a double protection but there is a regulator sensor that is by the engine that sends the temperatures to the computer which regulates the engine temps and computer tells the fans to come on.

Sounds like with it being on top may be the thermate gasket, Just remove the thermastat and replace and use high tempiture syclone when replacing gasket. The gasket comes with the new thermastat may as well go aherd and replace it while you have it apart. Good luck to you.

Hello Friend:

Your Thermastat is located in a Dome Shaped Housing,just take your hand put it on upper radiator hose and follow it to the engine ,you'll run into a hose clamp around the hose thats holding it on the Thermastat Housing.

Make sure your car is cold, then put a pan underneath vehicle below the thermastat housing,You'll loose a Little Coolant ,So this Way you can catch it.

Just Loosen the Rad. Hose Clamp and Pull off the Hose from the Thermastat Housing.Then you'll have a couple bolts holding on the Housing,Remove the Bolts and The Housing should be FREE to come off.If its a Little Stubborn ,Lightly Tap on It with a Plastic or Rubber Hammer a nd it will come off.Your Thermastat is under the Housing.

After off Clean Both Surfaces on the Housing remove All the Old Gasket material and Gasket Sealer .Then just put your new thermastat housing in with the Spring part facing Up.

Put Gasket Sealer on The Thermastat Housing and Put new Gasket on and Line up your Bolts Holes.

And Also piut a Small bead og Gasket Sealer on The Engines Surface. Tighten Down Good and Snug ,But Don't Over Tighten.

Put the Hose back on Tighten Clamp and Fill Radiator Back up to Top.

yes, you can do it with minimal tools. First though, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

Here is the procedure for your car:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Remove the air intake duct.
4. Disconnect the radiator hose
5. Remove the thermostat housing.
6. Remove the thermostat.
7. Clean all sealing surfaces.

To install:

1. Install the thermostat.
2. Install the thermostat housing using a new gasket.
3. Install the thermostat housing bolts and tighten as follows:
   1. 1999 models: 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)
   2. 2000-05 models: 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
   
   
4. Connect the radiator hose.
5. Install the air intake duct.
6. Refill the coolant.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
8. Start the engine and check for leaks.

1. Remove the air cleaner intake duct.
   
2. Partially drain the cooling system.
3. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the thermostat housing.
4. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
5. Remove the thermostat.
6. Clean and inspect the thermostat housing gasket mating surfaces.
7. 
   

To install:

1. Install the thermostat.
2. Install the thermostat housing.
3. Install the thermostat housing bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
4. Install the radiator inlet hose to the thermostat housing.
5. Install the air cleaner intake duct.
6. Fill the cooling system.
7. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Hi: You'll first want to Drain your Radiator take your radiator cap off so when drain it the coolant will drain freely.Then Drain your raditor you'll find a Drain Tee outlet on the inside bottom of your radiator. And catch the Coolant in a Drain Pan. Standing in Front of your Vehicle you'll see a Hose connected to your Radiator(UPPER RADIATOR HOSE) take your Hand and follow it down to your Engine until you locat a Hose Clamp Remove the hose clamp and work off the top Radiator Hose.Where you removed the hose theres a Dome Shaped Metal Housing,with 2 bolts in it. Take those 2-Bolts out and Remove the Dome Thermastat Housing,Under it You'll Find your Thermostat it shuold come out with a little Resistance. Once its out, Clean Up The Thermastat Dome of any Gasket still left on it, and clean where you remove the Thermastat Surface.To put back just Reverse the Removal Be-sure your Thermastat is put in right and not up side down.Then get some Gasket Sealer Put a Little on the Thermastat Housing where gasket goes and some on the Enging surface and Install your New Thermastat,Be careful when Tightening the 2-Bolts on The Housing. not to Over tighten them.The torque Specs on the 2 bolts range between 10- 15 Foot pounds.You don't want to Strip,
After you get your New Thermastat in and your Radiator Hose on and Clamped.Make Sure you have closed the Drain outlet. then fill with coolant,if your coolant is old i recommend putting new coolant in. First make sure engine is cool.
-Put drain pan under car, coolant will run out.
-Remove the TOP radiator hose that runs to the metal thermastat housing. Coolant will now be running out, try and direct it to the drain pan below.
-Remove the thermastat housing, BEFORE removing the thermastat make sure you TAKE NOTE at how it is situated in the casting.
- Take the thermastat housing and run a wire brush on the flat spot were the old gasket material is.
-Both mating sides of the thermastat housing MUST BE PERFECTLY CLEAN. There can not be any old gasket material left.
-Insatll new thermastat.
-Put a very light amount of PERMATEX orange high temp. silicone on BOTH sides of the new gasket.
-Put a small amount on bolt threads also.
-Now install thermastat housing, and bolts.
-Tighten bolts down a little at a time, alternating between the two, unitl till they are tight.
-Install the radiator hose, and tighten hose clamp.
-Remove radiator cap, pour in coolant, until it sits just below the radiator cap neck. This may take a little time as the system has some air in it.
-Install the radiator cap. Make sure you radiator overflow tank is filled properly.
-Remove the drain pan, make SURE ALL the tools use used are secure, and out of the engine bay.
-Start engine, and place your heater control to 'HEAT"
-Let engine run until the top radiator hose is hot, which means you thermastat has opened.
-Keep watching the engine temp AT ALL TIMES, we wnat to make sure there is no air in the system.
-Inspect for any leaks. Now when the top radiator hose is hot make sure the hose clamp is tight.
