Trouble getting out of park

Its a gear shift issue.

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

The shifter needs to be inspected.If the gears are shifted automatically.The shifter assembly is got misaligned,it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities.But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this auto shifting occurred then its shifter assembly realign issue.

It can be issue with transmission,most probably it needs to be rebuilt.

TPS throttle position sensor might need adjustment or the catlic converter in the exhaust needs replacing as its not leting the exhaust out freely.

You need to remove the trans pan to inspect the parking pawl and rod. Hopefully you can adjust or repair with trans in your vehicle.

Also don't assume your cable etc is okey. You don't know that. You may be able to adjust it and be okey.

check with a transmission shop but 2 things it could be,1-broken pump shaft and/or pump gear 2-of what i know with taurus transmissions since i used to own one years ago, there is a piston inside that breaks.Some transmission shops would fix ONLY what it needs instead of fixing the whole thing,the problem is labor in taking it out to fix it, and re-assembly,but a phone call to a specialist is worth the few minutes.
