Subaru ej20 the fan radiator always on the radiator cool?

Fan radiator always on even though the radiator not really hot to trigger the fan .the temperature indicator normal.p

Sorry if this might break your heart. I have '98 Outback which is the same 1st generation DOHC 2.5 engine. These are common head gasket problem (I'd say 100% of every engine sooner or later) once you have had your car overheated.

You will not get this comfirmed by just have your mech check the compression on the cylinder because we call it phantom leak (internal leak which can be confirmed with hydrocarbon in coolant). And then you will end up replace every other thing before you could reach the source of problem.

Other signs of this issue are as following: random overheating after freeway or uphills drive, bubbles in coolant overflow tank, oil residue in coolant overflow tank, bubble nioses from the a/c vent.

You're looking at $1000-1500 repair by independent mech as they have to pull engine out to fix the problem. I had mine fixed two weeks ago and now my baby is running like a champ.

Possible bad ground circuit for the blower motor. Start checking your connections.

If your havinf any trouble I suggest you can pick up a repair manual from any part store and if you feel like spending around $26 you can get alldata online for you car for a year I just did it for some wiring diagrams and it helped me out bigtime good luck

Yes they will bolt in. Make sure you have the sensors matched. You might have to do some playing with the computer to make it all work properly. Good luck and have a great day.

Blower relay

This sounds like it's your radiator fan or engine bay fan continuing to run due to the hotter weather we are having. Some fans are programmed to cool the engine bay area if their thermostat triggers them. These conditions usually happen when weather becomes very hot and triggers the system to continue the fan due to excessive heat in the engine compartment. Usually not a bad thing and should stop when weather cools down. What is worse is if the fan doesn't work. Keep an eye on it and see if it continues to do this when weather cools down.

Radiator Fan always Running

Temperature sensors trigger cooling fan. But can be a stuck cooling fan relay that refuses to disengage.

This fan will strain charging system and may cause engine to run too cool at times.

I have a 2003 subaru outback 2.5 have had head gaskets replaced, new raditor, replaced thermostate, heat gauge still shows it getting hot UNLESS I turn on the heater fan, doesn't matter where temp is set...

Terry, what's happening, is when you turn your heater on, no matter what temp you have it set at, the vehicle allows coolant to pass through your heater core, and the blower motor acts as another cooling device for the anti-freeze. The next steps I would take, is to check your fans. Let the vehicle warm up a bit, and look under the hood and see if they are turning on at all. If they are, next, you may need to flush your entire cooling system. First start with the radiator, and if that does not help, you may need to flush the entire system, which flushes water jackets throughout the engine, AND the radiator at the same time. Now, if you are not seeing bubbles, (check under the radiator cap also), I would doubt it is a crack anywhere. Take the first steps I gave you, and see if this fixes the problem. Hope it helped you out.

Hello, if this car has an electric fan for cooling the fan may not be running. Also many of these fans have more than 1 speed and usually the high speed is always on for an air conditioner.

I am not familiar with your brand, but there are temperature relays to trigger the fan. With the work done on this motor you must have disconnected some wiring. If you have a water temperature sender make sure you are using the wiring for the cooling fan and not the dash gauge. There are usually 2 water sensors.

I would check with a parts store to see if they are different sending units. Test the fan motor. It is possible that the fan was the major problem to begin with.

Is your AC on (AC compressor activated)? Try switching that off and see if it still runs.

I just changed my radiator,thermostate.But it is still overheating.I don't see any smokes,but the gauge for the temperature above normal.What should I do?

The radiator fan may not be blowing.
Idle car with parking brake engaged.
Turn OFF Air Conditioner
Pop open hood and look at the radiator fan.
It is not spinning.
Turn ON Air Conditioner and look at fan.
The fan MUST be spinning.

Replace the "Radiator fan" relay switch.
Check primary fuses and replace as needed.

Both radiator cooling fans won't turn on vehicle overheats

The fans come on only when hot or the AC is on. There are many fuses that have to be good for it to work. The fan relay should have 2 pins hot with the key on, The other 2 should be ground. with the key off one should be hot and the other can then be ground the other pins that are ground one of them is the fan. the other becomes ground when the computer turns the fans on. If you don't have a pin thats hot at the relay all the time then theres a blown fuse or even the power wire from the battery at the battery

Radiator fan stays on after long hot drive.

Check your relay. I believe one of the terminal connections is an always hot connection. If your relay has gotten stuck in the on position, it will cause your fans to remain on.

Doesn't take a technical engineer to find what could be the problem ! Looking a wiring diagram I see three relays that are used to turn on the cooling fans ! One of the relay's contacts are stuck closed causing Battery voltage to be applied to one of the fans when you turn the key to the on position . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop .
