There have been issues with dipstick handles breaking off and dipstick stuck in tube. Here is a simple way to remove that broken dipstick. On the valve cover there is a hose that leads to the intake tube. Remove this hose and with a blow nozzle blow compressed air into the valve cover. The broken dipstick will shoot out of the tube. Simply install the new dipstick into the tube.
Remove the old one and install the new. Ok, jokes aside, why? There's almost never a reason to replace a dipstick tube unless it's been damaged or is leaking. That being said, get the new one, and make sure your dipstick is the correct one for the new tube. You should be able to look at the new one and see how it is. Normally all you have to do is remove any hold down bolts and then pull the tube out. Assembly is reverse of removal.
Many dipstick holders are bolted to the engine...removing this bolt and the dipstick tube should also retrieve the dipstick...you may need a new tube, as well as dipstick...Hope this helps.
It's only 2 bolts to detach dipstick tube from block and if it doesn't pull the broken piece out when u remove tube u should see the piece sticking out of block to pull it out by hand!!!
I gather from reading this that your dipstick has broken off and is still partway stuck in the tube and you cannot get it out or put a new one in? IF that is the problem, you can unhook the tube from the spot that it connects to the engine and slide the old stick out, put the tube back on and put the new dipstick back on it. There may be a bracket holding the tube in place that you have to loosen or remove. To remove the tube just pull it straight out.
Hi there, you did not specify the type of engine you use so here are possible guides for varying enginge types:
2.4L Engine To Remove:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor and remove the air cleaner assembly. 3. Remove the EVAP purge solenoid and move it out of the way. 4. Disconnect the wiring from the alternator. 5. Remove the accessory drive belt from the alternator. 6. Remove the alternator.
To Install:
1. Install the alternator. 2. Install the accessory drive belt 3. Connect the wiring to the alternator. 4. Install the EVAP purge solenoid in the bracket. 5. Install the air cleaner and duct, then connect the intake air temperature sensor. 6. Connect the negative battery cable.
3.3L & 3.8L Engines To Remove:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the wiring from the alternator. 3. Raise and safely support the vehicle. 4. Remove the right front tire and lower splash shield. 5. Remove accessory drive belt. 6. Remove the lower engine oil dipstick tube bolt, then remove the wiring harness from the dipstick tube. 7. Remove the 3 mounting bolts. 8. Lower the vehicle. 9. Remove engine oil dipstick tube. 10. Roll and carefully remove the alternator from vehicle.
To Install:
1. Place the alternator into position on the engine. 2. Install upper mounting bolts to hold the alternator in place. 3. Lubricate the o-ring with engine oil and install the dipstick tube. 4. Install the upper dipstick tube bolt. 5. Connect the wiring to the alternator. 6. Raise and safely support the vehicle. 7. Install the alternator lower mounting bolt and tighten. 8. Install the lower oil dip stick tube bolt. 9. Install the accessory drive belt. 10. Install the right front splash shield and tire. 11. Lower vehicle. 12. Install the wiring harness at the dipstick tube 13. Connect the negative battery cable.
the tube is on the right side of the engine near the back. Remove the dipstick and add fluid with a funnel. When you check the fluid level, do so with the engine running in park. Be sure to buy the appropriate fluid for your make.
