well make sure it is the tranfercase because if it was u wouldent have 4wd and u wouldent be able to drive it but it would be cheper to rebuild it but make sure first because some people are just out for your money good luck

My first thought for a solution of your problem is plug wires. You have replaced some common problem areas for this situation but the plug wires are the most susceptible for causing a miss after engine is warmed up. Try replacing the spark plug wires and let me know what happens.

Here is the diagram,It is always a good idea to only disaasemble one side so you can use the other side as a reference,I also reccomend using a set od brake pliers,they will the disassembly and reassembly much easier.

You need to check the fluid and if it smells burnt and looks black, then you will have to rebuild or replace your transmission.

Whole front end shaking badly, unsafe to drive, was told it needed everything up front except transfer case, 1990 chevy 1/2 ton 4wd pick-up. are parts hard to get and how much should they cost?

ive never tryed it but i wouldnt doubt if it could work, i dont think chevy changed any mounts or frames or parts related to the transfer case, just before you buy make sure you check the mounting brackets, bolts and difference in size or shape of the transfer case. also make sure the driveshaft yolk is the same size and shape as the old one before trying anything out.

I had the same problem on my 90 K1500, it was the 4 wheel drive actuator unit itself. Bout it at the local parts store for 30 bucks and installed it in 10 minutes or less - and vavoom! 4 X 4 back in business.
