Engine dies at random. Just replaced ignition switch!

Engine dies at random. It will spin but not start for 5 minutes or so. Just replaced the ignition switch. Seems maybe to die when its warmer weather. Best I have read is main relay for next guess. whatever the part is also seems to control the brake switch because it also won't come out of park during the dead spell. Anyone agree or disagree? Also please share exactly which relay and where its located on 98 accord v6 sedan. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

SOURCE: 95 honda accord dx with 2.2 non vtec won't stay

Hello
You say you checked the ignition switch, you are 100% sure that isn't the problem? this year and indeed most 1990's Honda"s has a problem with the electrical contacts in the ignition starter switch, the symptom is the car will run until the key is released to the run position or the engine just stalls for no reason, the switch is very easy to replace and I bet is your problem, just remove the sterring column covers, they are a **** shell cover the screws are recessed on the bottom of the cover, Honda doesn't sell the switch seperately from the key cylinder buy it is sold in the after market, here is a price and picture of the part.

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # US288 {IGNITION STARTER SWITCH} $31.79 US

Heet will not fix a bad fuel filter. See if it is bad and replace it if it is. the fuel filter is on the passenger side engine wall at the rear of the engine compartment. It looks about the size of an oil filter with a steel band around the center that secures it to the firewall.

Engine getting off immediatly

It could be your ignition switch. when you start (turn) your car as soon as it starts you take your hand off the key the engine dies? If this is the case then it is your ignition switch. To replace it is a simple procedure and should take a maximum 5 minutes. strip off the steering surround(around your indicator stalks) on the back of the ignition barel is a black plastic circle with two wires and two screws. unscrew those follow the wires down under the dash and unplug them. That is all you need to do the to replace is just the reverse of this.

Hope this helps

2005 ignition switch

Good day;
The following is the removal of the switch
1. remove the steering column trim covers.
2. disconnect the ignition switch harness connector.
3. turn the switch to the run position

IMPORTANT THE IGNITION SWITCH MUST BE IN THE RUN POSITION DURING REMOVAL IN ORDER TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH.

4. remove the switch screws
5. remove the ignition switch from the steering column

if the ignition switch is replaced and a learn procedure is not performed the engine will crank but not start or will start and stall immediately.

30 minute learn procedure
1. turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF
2. attempt to start the engine then release the key to ON. the vehicle will not start
3. observe the SECURITY telltale. after approx 10 min the telltale will turn OFF
4. turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds
5 repeat steps 1-4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles (30 min) the vehicle is now ready to relearn the PASSLOCK sensor data code and or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

IMPORTANT: THE VEHICLE LEARNS THE PASSLOCK SENSOR DATA CODE AND OR PASSWORD ON THE NEXT IGNITION SWITCH TRANSITION FROM OFF TO CRANK YOU MUST TURN THE IGNITION OFF BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE.

6.start the vehicle the vehicle has now learned the passlock and or password
7. if you have a scan tool clear any codes if needed or disconnect the battery for 30 sec. the history DTC will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

hope this helps

2002 Chev Siverado,2500hd duamax dielsel. Changed the two batteries becuase the others died. Now I cannot start the engine. The engine truns over good. The security light flashes.

It sounds like the anti theft pass key's have most it's memory and needs to be reset. Try this, it takes about 30 min to do. 30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important: Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted, be glad to help

2001 Buick Regal cuts off while driving at times also won't start

The ignition switch on that model is rated @ 50amps. When I was driving my 2001 Regal LS (at 120,000 miles) and used the turn signal, the engine would die, when I switched the turn signal off, the engine ran. So I replaced the ignition switch, and all is well.

2000 s10 Blazer dies very 3-6 weeks for no reason

i would check your ignition system. you would need a meter for this but look for broke or loose connections. if it was a fuel problem i dont think it would just start up after 20 minutes. or you might try your ignition switch. if its shorting or something then ya well it would cut your engine off real quick
