SOURCE: brake lights/rear turn signals

I had the same problem with my 1999 Yukon. The electric board needed to be replaced. Rust starts to build up and shorts out or blows the bulb. The dealership charged $73.60 for the part and I installed it myself (Saved $30).

SOURCE: brake light switch

In the 04 models there has been a recall on a part in the brake lights. You can look it up and it gives you a number to call GMC. If you truck is one of the affected models they will replace it for you.

SOURCE: abs

Disconnect the positive lead on battery wait about 30 seconds and reconnect. Take it out somewhere where you can floor it and go through the gears a couple times. This will clear error lights and establish a new acceration curve. If the error comes back then start looking for loose connections or alignment problem for abs stuff.

SOURCE: bottom brake lights and hazard lights do not come on. All other lights work including top brake lights. Fuses and bulbs checked.

Check for power out of brake light switch by brake pedal. Of its faulty , the 3rd brake light will still work. Hope this helps

Why does the 3rd brake light always stay on at all times even when I unplug at the brake pedal on my 2005 Lincoln Town Car.

N1 CHECK THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE
  • Disconnect: LCM C2145b.
  • Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate?

N2 CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP) SWITCH
  • Disconnect: BPP Switch C278.
  • Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate?

N3 CHECK CIRCUIT 511 (LG) FOR SHORT TO POWER
  • Disconnect: CJB Fuse 22 (15A).
  • Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate?

N4 CHECK CIRCUIT 569 (DG) OR 5 (OG/LB) FOR SHORT TO POWER
  • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202c.
  • Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate?
Yes
If the high mounted stoplamp is illuminated, REPAIR circuit 569 (DG). TEST the system for normal operation.

If the right rear stoplamps are illuminated, REPAIR circuit 5 (OG/LB). TEST the system for normal operation.

If the left rear stoplamps are illuminated, GO to N5 .

No
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to Section 211-05 . TEST the system for normal operation.
Principles of Operation
The stoplamps are supplied voltage from the brake pedal position (BPP) switch. When the brake pedal is depressed, the internal switch closes and power is supplied directly to the high mounted stoplamp and the multifunction switch (which then routes the power to the rear stoplamps).

Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical
  • Brake pedal position (BPP) switch
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuse(s):
    • 11 (20A)
    • 22 (15A)
  • Circuitry
  • Stoplamp bulb(s)

  1. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as necessary.
  1. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  1. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
NOTE: Make sure the brake pedal is not depressed when carrying out diagnostic test.
  1. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS TEST. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Section 418-00 .
    • NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for lighting control module (LCM), refer to Section 419-10 .
    • SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the LCM.
  1. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the LCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index.
  1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart .

LCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index NOTE: For a complete master list of the LCM DTCs, refer to Section 419-10 . DTC Description DTC Caused By Action B1485 Brake Pedal Input Circuit Short to Battery LCM Go To Pinpoint Test N .

What else can i do?My brake light are no working and i already change the switch pedal and the fuse its ok what else can be wrong? Lincoln town car 2004

Check the light bulb fittings are not corroded or disconnected.
Otherwise a long wire with clips on to check the circuit is complete from fuse to each side of the lamp fitting, or in between

Need to locate ebcm for a 1996 tahoe

The ebcm has nothing to do with the brake lights , the ebcm - electronic brake control module is for the ABS - anti-lock brake system !
Stoplamps
Voltage is available at all times through the STOP/HAZ fuse to the torque converter clutch (TCC)/stoplamp switch. With the depression of the brake pedal, the contacts in the TCC/stoplamp switch close. Voltage is available from the stoplamp relay on pickups, or the TCC/stoplamp switch on all of the other vehicles, through the turn/hazard switch to the left stoplamp, the right stoplamp, and the stoplamp lights. If a turn signal is in operation, the stoplamp on that side flashes as a turn signal. The other stoplamp serves as a stop lamp.

2006 zephyr, tail lights do not work. Is there a fuse for this assembly and if so what number is it?

Not quite sure if you are talking about the stoplamps or the parklamps which would I think be front and back. But if you look in the fuse panel located inside the vehicle to the left of the steering wheel by the brake pedal, in the number 4 position is a 15 amp fuse which covers parklamps & the license plate lamps. In the number 21 position is the stoplamps fuse and is a 7.5 amp fuse. This should be in your owners manual if you have one. if you need an owners manual for your car, you can email me at [email protected] with your make, model and year and I will be happy to email you a copy of it. No worries it won't cost you anything.....yes there are still free things in the world. Anyway here is a picture of that fuse box layout for you if you need it. I hope this helps you and good luck.

Replace rear window brake light bulb

I just had to do this, and it isn't all that easy or quick. First, gently work the gray, carpet like cover loose from the area around the tail light ,(this may give you a little trouble). Once you have done this, you will see three silver nuts. These must be unscrewed. The lower left nut must be accessed through a hole next to where the trunk lid fits. (The screws are permanently attached to the lens housing so will not drop into obscurity when the nuts are removed). After removing the nuts, GENTLY work the lens housing away from the car. You may need a screw driver to unseat the housing, but just be gentle.

You will find three bulbs inside the lens. The brake light bulb is on the lower right side. Simply pull the old bulb out and insert the new one.

Just reverse these directions to reassemble the housing.
