My fuel gauge starts off low then once I start driving the meter slowly goes up to full but if I just turn it on without driving the gauge would stay at a steady position. I think that the correct reading of the gauge is when I just start it up without driving but then it starts to move/go up once I start driving

SOURCE: 1988 cutlas calais, turns over but no start.

check your fuel filter first ? and have your tech attach a fuel pressure/volumn gage to see if its the pump? you may need to spray starting fluid to see if it starts to eliminate igniton/ computer issues first? the pump only runs for 5 seconds when you turn the key thats normal? good luck autodoc

SOURCE: Fuel gauge stuck behind peg at FULL mark

one thing you can try is to get one of those magnetic pick up tools at a parts store.......prefferably one with a large magnet...and put a cloth around the end of it so you dont scratch the plastic on you gauges and try to pull it back to where it belongs,i have done this a few times with good results, hope this helps

Testimonial: "Thanks for the tip. A strong magnet to the right side of the instrument cluster was used to reset the needle clockwise to its proper position."

SOURCE: Fuel gauge is reading empty, and the low fuel

the fuel level sensor in your fuel pump has gone bad. it is intergral to the entire sending unit assembly (fuel pump), and is located inside the gas tank. you must lower the gas tank to gain access. good luck!

Fuse box under dash diagram? Fuel pump working n getting juice. When start car fuel gauge goes to full. Stays on full while driving. Turn off goes to empty. What would cause this? How can it be fixed?

most likely reason is that fuel float sender is stuck or damaged , also in rare cases the wire to sender/tank can become damaged and short to ground making a false full tank appear (use flashlight and look carefully at under car

There is no reset for that and to replace the fuel guage you have to change the fuel pump, now there is another way where you can clean the guage reader (patanchio) meter with a pensil eraser and it will work.

At the start of the engine, the fuel gauge reads empty. i know for sure the gas tank is filled up with a decent amount or its full. after afew miles, the gauge slowly moves to its proper reading. i know...

Most cars and truck nowdays show the tank empty when you start it. Then it slowly advances to the correct level of fuel in the tank. You can try and use some fuel additives like Gumout or Valvoline that clean the injectors and other fuel sytem parts. You can get a buildup of tarnish in these parts and this can cause slow readings. If this was the case it should improve after a few tank fulls of gas with the cleaners added. The guage could also slowly be going bad. The newer style guages are connected to the fuel pump and you will need to replace the whole unit if this goes out on you. Keep in mid that when the fuel pump quits, it quits, usually without much advance notice. If the car starts sputtering and does not have full power, this will hint at the fuel pump going bad. If your car has over 100,000 miles on it, you might want to think about preparing to change the fuel pump, these seem to want to go out shortly after 100,000 miles, but you can get lucky once in a while and it can last longer. Keeping your tank at least half full with clean gas is a big help, the gas keeps the fuel pump cool so it last longer!

Fuel gauge reads E when first started, jumps to F after awhile

It is more likely to be the fuel guage sender which is faulty.

Fuel Gauge Issue

I know you don't want to drop the tank and I could lie to you, but the truth is that you have to drop the tank to check and fix this problem. It really is not as hard as you may think. Even easier if you are low on gas. Putting a full tank back up is a real challenge!
So, after you pull the tank down and remove the sending unit/fuel pump, get a ohm meter and set it to Ohms. Insert the leads one into each opening on the connector on the sending unit plug. Slowly raise and lower the arm with the fuel float on it and see if your ohms fluctuate. Also notice if there is any resistance on the arm as you move it up and down. This is how you check your problem. I have seen it many times before. A new sending unit will fix this problem, though if your ohms are fluctuating and your float arm is stiff, you can temporarliy fix it with a few squirts of WD40. It will start to hang up again after a while though.
Please remember to rate this fix.

2006 envoy gas gage

your gas gauge sensor is most likley the problem on alot of new cars they measure your fuel off an average of were your float is at. like if your not moving it stays in one spot but as you move the float moves and reads the lowest amout that it is averaging and if your float keeps reading low your going to read that you have alot less gas than you really do. have you tried filling the tank all the way and see what it does? if it stays at full until you use some gas and your float starts moving your gas gauge will probley go down in that case its the fuel sensor if this dont help let me know and ill c what i can find out for you
