I have a 91 Lincoln Town Car Signature series that will not shift out of first gear until i hit 30-35 m.p.h. Manually shifting from first to second gear is no problem but once i put it into drive it has the same problem again. the other thing is that it wont go past second gear ive tried but don't want to push her to hard. Basically my car shifts fine when its done manually but in drive it doesnt. What could be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated as i dont really have the funds to take it into a shop for testing. Also i checked the fluid and its at the right level is clean and doesnt have a burnt smell to it. Thank you.

So more than likely it just needs a tune up and isn't acting up due to a part failure? Its been suggested to the it might have something to do with the MLP/TR (i think thats what its called) sensor. Could it cause those problems?
Also it was suggested that the problem might be caused by a bad MLP/TR ( i think thats right) sensor. Could this going bad cause shifting problems when in drive?
I began having problems just shifting into gear when starting up the car a couple weeks ago on and off but eventually got it in gear. Today could not so left without transportation and do not know where to start and just moved out of state. Any suggestions, this is a '96 Signature Series Town Car.
