Question about 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante

1 Answer

Battery died after 1 week of jump start ?

My 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante was dead last week. My friend helped me jump start it and it worked so I drove around for about 20 minutes. I didn't drive it for 6 days because I had to go back to school away from home so my car was sitting in the garage. I come back and the car is dead again?? Why?? Is it a bad battery or what? Please help!!!

Charge it all the way up. Then take it to a auto parts store and get the battery and starter and alternator tested.

The easiest thing to do is to check the generator. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage across the battery terminals while the car is running. You should get a reading of approximately 14.9 volts which means the gererator is working. With the engine off, check the battery voltage, it should be 12 volts. if it reads less (say 9 or 10 volts), the battery is not holding the charge and needs to be replaced. Also make sure you have good CLEAN TIGHT connections between the battery terminals and the leads. Sometimes a loose connection or oxidation between the terminals and the connector causing a poor connection is to blame.

Interesting as I just started having a similar problem. AAA said thre is a slow drain on the battery (which is only 6 months old). We can hear a very high pitch sound under the hood which may be part of it, but have no idea yet as to what it is.

I would have a load test done on the battery as there is a dead cell evident from the number of jump starts you need. Have an auto electrician test the alternator for charge rate and out put. check drive belt condition and tension.

(1) Loose connection on your battery terminal(s). You should not be able to move the connections on your battery by hand at all. (2) Loose or missing alternator belt. (3) Faulty alternator. (4) Electrical short.
