All are fuel related , as in running lean. I'd start by checking all vacuum lines for possible leak, then buy some spray cleaner for MAF sensor & give it a good spray or tuner spray from TV repair place or radio shack, is even better. Ford says not to (they'd rather sell new part) but it will work at least long enough to see if that's the problem before you replace a bunch of parts.

If your code reader doesn't have an erase function you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes and that should reset the computer.

Light should have stored code. Go to local autoparts chain & get free scan for codes and go from there. Saves all that guess work & money a lot of times. Write down code(s) and let us know.

Gas Filter? Then scan tool on it,to look for codes set when check light came on. Most likely a senor is old and out of range.

i would check the plug wires and the coils you check the plug wires for bad spots at night start the motor up and look at the plugs if you see a spark arch out the wire and to a peace of metal then the plug wires need to be replace.

idles at 400 rpm and nearly stalls. runs ok at 50 mph as long as i dont step on the gas. check engine light flashed but didnt stay on. the problem comes and goes about 5 times in 10 miles, then rides smooth for 5 miles.
