Question about 2005 Ford Explorer
My dash board back lit lights won't come on when headlights are on. I have blinkers, warning words and all other lights. But, don't have any back lit lights to see speedometer, tach, fuel, etc. I have checked all fuses and all are good, under the hood and the dash. Please advise.
Bulbs maybe burned out or a wire for the dash has broken or a bad solder joint on the circuit board make sure you use a continuity tester on the fuses sometimes they still look good but are bad check all the fuse holders for the instrument cluster a loose fuse or bad corroded wire Wil knock them out also follow the wires to the connections from the fuse box the contacts can be corroded

doubt it is a fuse, could be,but i would check the speed sensor under the vehicle at the transmission,it will be a plug in with 2 or 3 wires going in to it,it will be on the side of the trans.towardthe rear of it.

WELL YOUR 12 VOLTS TO THE PARK LIGHTS ON EXTERIOR OF CAR COME FROM THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH.. ALSO THAT VOLTAGE FEEDS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER... KEEP IN MIND THAT THE DASH DIMMER MIGHT ALSO BE BAD... WHEN YOU TURN ON PARK LIGHTS YOU SHOULD SEE THE DASH LIGHT FUSE GO HOT IF NOT SUSPECT THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH

Testimonial: "I will check the headlight switch. The dimmer does dim the instruments for the stereo though. Can't tell about fuse with headlights as I have no diagr"
Analog Battery Gauge Located On Instrument Panel.Remove the analog cluster and check out its connection at the back.Wiggle the connectors a bit.Check out for any bad wire or cable connections. If any of the wire burnt out or loose cable then its the problem and the wire or cable has to be replaced. Also if the cluster connector wires are shorting the other wires in the dash then that can drain the battery.Get the connectors checked.
To remove instrument panel:---
1)Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove 2 cover panels and screws holding instrument cluster. Lift out instrument
cluster. Remove connector seal. Disconnect connectors and remove instrument cluster. And at the back you will see the connectors and wires passing from connectors.Check the wires and connectors.
keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Is this both the high beams and low beams that do not work ?
If you checked all 3 fuses with a meter ( with the headlamp in Low position for both low beam fuses or in high for the high beam fuse ), the next items to test are the MFS ( MultiFunction Switch ) and the main headlamp switch ( test not look at it ).
The main headlamp test chart
The test chart for the MFS
