Fixya is a site based on helping others. You post a question, and if somebody knows the answer, they can help you out. Just because you ask, doesn't mean that somebody will always know the answer. Try posting at different times of the day when different people are active. Be descriptive in your question. "my car doesn't start" is not a descriptive question and the answer is hard to pinpoint. Most experts will avoid answering. Everybody is good at something and is considered an "expert" on here at that specific thing. I tend to answer car stereo questions or some GM car problems. Others might know alot about refrigerators or blenders. Be patient and descriptive. Post your question in the correct format a few times a day, and if somebody can help, I'm sure they will.
1) Crowdsourcing information can be useful or worthless. It is generally hit and miss. I have found a good answer or two on rare occasions. Mostly it's people who don't understand the question, have no clue about the answer, or people trying to advertise their own service.
2) The website is very poorly programmed. I was searching for "amt permatrak oscillating wet stone" and got 90 "answers," none of which had anything to do with the item I was searching for. They need to tighten up their search function instead of returning worthless information.
