Can anyone tell me how to replace the lightbulb that illuminates the transmition gauges (not the one on the dashboard but the one by the shifter itself).
Thanks!
Re: Lightbulb that illuminates the transmition gauges
You have to remove all the screws that are holding the center console in the floor and remove it and then once you remove the console yo can access the bulb to the shift indicator

I have the feeling you mounted the lightbuld 180 degrees reversed.
The little mirror in the bulb is therefore illuminating the low part of the projector. Try to reverse the lightbulb rotating half its size clockwise after unplugging. It should work then.
Remove the key from the ignition. Make sure the doors are closed, so the new bulb does not illuminate when you are installing it. Make sure the dome lighting switch is turned to the "Off" position. Pry the plastic lens away from the dome light. Use a small, flat-head screwdriver. Push back the side bulb clamp. Pull out the old dome lightbulb. Wipe the area with a paper towel if it is dirty. Wrap the new bulb in a paper towel. Insert it into the dome lightbulb holder. Push it up gently to secure it. Turn the switch to "On" to test the bulb. Reposition the cover and push up to lock the clips into place.
You can get one out of a Salvage yard and if you can remove it yourself you learn how to do it. You might look at the sister car, an Explorer and see if it is the same. It will give you more choices to get used parts.
Now sometimes these panels work with a backlite bulb and if the bulb is burned out the unit may still work with a new bulb. Contact a Dealer for the lightbulb or see an aftermarket parts store for the lightbulb before spending big money on a dash screen.
There are also places on the Internet which rebuild digital dashes and you might come across a rebuilt unit, or get yours rebuilt, by one of these firms. Do a Web search digital dash repair or digital gauge repair.
Most likely for the dash you will need to remove the faceplate or top of the dash. Again, nothing can replace seeing a disassembled vehicle for yourself. The lightbulb may be able to be changed from the back of the dash and if done this way it will save lots of time.
orange circle with dashed lines each side indicates worn brake pads, circle with cross through indicates bulb failure. third orange light indicates brake light bulb faiure
Go to your local car stereo installation shop and ask them NICELY to look at it for you...$30-50 at the most...maybe free, if it is buy the dude lunch for what, $10? Good Luck
This means you have a light buld not working some where in the front or rear lights. When you fix the problem the light will automaticy go out hope this helps.
this is not a easy fix and it does not have a bulb to illuminate it the illumination is part of a circuit board and the whole unit requires replacementand it is quite expensive, sorry
