I have a 2000 Chevy impala with 131,500 miles on it. For some reason it's using more gas then normal. I had a new fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator put on it and still same thing. Can't see no apparent leaks anywhere so why is it burning so much gas??? Check engine light is not on nor are there any codes coming up. What could it be???? Car runs great except for the poor gas mileage, please help........

Catalytic converter, egr valve, oxygen sensors. If you have that many miles on it, try loosening the exhaust before the cat converter and try driving it. If your power has come back, then it has failed internally.

Vacuume Leaks can cause this problems. you have to do a through check of vacuum hoses and the EGR valve. Your best bet can be to have your vehicle scanned at an autozone store and get a code. The EGR has to be closed at idle, then as the engine warms up or is accelerated, the EGR opens. That is if your car does not have an electronic EGR . The electronic EGRs do not use vacuum to operate. They are controlled by the PCM (power train control Module).

Could be a short in the wiring for the O2 sensor.   I currently have the same issue only my car finally threw a code after two days of it acting up.  Code 106.  Changed the MAP sensor and it now throws 108, MAP sensor high voltage circuit.  Ah the joys of cold weather and broke down vehicles.  But I know that you wont always get a code with a short.  Let me know if you fixed the problem.

Have a dealer or garage check your Oxygen (O2) sensor. As a quick fix, try disconnecting and reconnecting your car battery. Sometimes this will reset the check engine light.Good Luck!

Had a 94 Olds Bravada that did a similar thing and it was EGR valve on the front of the intake. It' s easy to take off and clean with WD 40 and if you have an air compressor blow it out good.

A 2003 Impala has a 3.4 or a 3.8 engine.
The fuel filter should be under the car in the fuel line between the tank and the engine.

I have a 2000 Chevy Impala and my car only stay crank if my foot is on the gas, when I release , it shuts off. It's not the mass air flow sensor or fuel pump what can it be??

Inspect, clean or replace the Idle Air control valve...about $35 for the part...also how is the air filter? A clogged catalytic converter can cause this too? ( A free check at quality muffler shops. Hope this helps.

Replacing fuel filter 2000 impala

Disconect battery and releive the fuel pressure by opening gas cap and under hood with fuel pressure tester. then you need two open ended wrenches.. Go to driver side rear tire and just in front of the tire about a foot under the car you will see the fuel filter remove filter mounting bracket apply one wrench to filter nut and one to fuel line side and turn oposite directions, might want to spray with some penetrating oil fist to break loose, then remove plastic clip from other side of the fuel filter and it should come right out.

Car wants to start but dies immediately. fuel pressure test bad

Couple of things, the fuel pressure held before with the old regulator but now it doesn't. Are you sure you got the tiny o-ring out when you changed it and installed it on the new one? Is there any fuel in the vacuum line to the regulator? Does the white exhaust smell like fuel or coolant burning?
