1997 Ford Contour Transmission

You have to drop the transmission pan with gasket to get to the transmission filter. About 5 quarts or so of transmission fluid will come out when you drop the pan. You have to buy a new transmission gasket. Do not reuse the old gasket.

I'm assuming you have an automatic transmission. It sounds like there is an internal fault in the transmission itself. You'll have to take out the trans and take it to a shop to have it repaired, unless you're experienced on this kind of work and have the special tools and equipment required.

this code indicates a problem with the transmission range selected switch, this switch is on the transmission case where the shift cable attaches, when u select a gear it sends a signal to the computer control that u want lets say Reverse by sensing the range selector switch feedback, replace the switch will most likely cure the code, then clear the code and drive a few miles.

If you have a standard transmission it will hold 8.9 qts. Should your car have a 4 cyl.DOHC engine then the following will work. With automatic transmission 7.5 qts. With standard transmission 7.0 qts. All capacities are based on a completely empty coolant system.

Change out ignition moduel, tighten all grounds.

this is the first sign your tranny is shot or try changing the filter if your tranny filter is clogged it will act the same as you are saying

you may have a worn out clucth lining. try to adjust the prdal if it still jerks back then change it...

trans filter can only be replaced by taking the trans apart. absolutely not worth it.
