I have a big problem with my automatic 1997 Ford Contour, I have recently noticed that when I drive it for about 15 min, it downshifts and revs really hard and shifts back up and feels normal once again. I took it to the mechanic and was told it was a switch or somekind of sensor inside the trans. and are charging me about 900 dollars just to replace that thing. I want to know if anyone can help me with this situation. Please I need help my life is at risk just kidding.
I had the same problem. A $35.00 Neutral Safety Switch took care of it. Takes about 15 or 20 minutes tops to replace it. Everyone I spoke too wanted to rebuild the tranny for about 122 to 15 hundred. I did a lot of research on here and found the problem.
