2005 Honda Civic wont start. Just makes a clicking sound

I went to my car this morning and my 2005 (purchased at the end of 2005) Honda Civic wont start. It just makes a rapid clicking sound. I tried to jump it (left the cables connected for about 3-5 minutes with other car's engine revving) but it didn't work.

Is it the alternator? Could my battery be dead after only owning the car 3 years? Any ideas?

    They are a little corroded. It was just a little weird because I didn't leave any lights on or anything. It was really cold last night though...

    I'll try to fix it tonight and I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

    had new cars six months old in the car rental and batterys can just die,other time they can last 9 yrs like the one on my opel astra

This sounds like a starter problem, does it click when you hit the key? are the battery cables ok, not corroded?

Car will not start
When it was transported (driven?) to miss. they could have gotten some bad ( water and/or dirt) in the gas.
Change the fuel filter.
Sometimes de-natured alcohol will absorb water.

The engine in your Honda is controlled by a computer and has fully electronic ignition as part of the electronic fuel injection system, whenever you experience a fault like this a fault code is recorded in the memory of the systems computer (called the PCM). So the 1st step to resolve this issue and find the problem is to have the fault codes read with a special tool called a scanner. Autozone and other stores like Autozone do this fault code test for free.

Sounds like your starter motor went bad. That will definitely cause the engine not to turn over.

If the battery checked out ok, the next thing to check would be the starter. The battery cables have been removed and cleaned? Don't think an 05 would have a corrosion problem, but who knows, it's easy enough to check. I also am wondering about the battery. If it's original, it's about 4 years old, It's approaching the end of it's life, even w/ only 42k. good luck and let me know how u do. countrycurt0.
