My 2002 Plymouth Neon just cut off on me at the red light and will not start back. There is power going to the lights, radio, etc...but when you turn the key nothing happens. The starter will not turn, click or anything. I disconnected the battery hoping the computer just needed to be reset, but that didn't work either. Timing belt was replaced a few years back because it broke and I spent over $1500.00 having the valves redone on it. It has 190,000 miles on it.. When it cut off it did not bog down or anything. It just acted like you turned the switch off.

Have you checked the starter solenoid. Your battery + cable connects to this then + cable runs from it to your starter. You also have an ignition switch wire connected to this. Just follow your cable from the battery and it will lead you right to the part. Some times these will break inside or the contacts go bad inside and therefore you will not get power to start the engine, but you will have power to turn on lights or whatever other accessories. The part is about $15

It sound like you might need a new battery. What you need to do is remove the
battery and take it your local auto parts store and have them quick charge your
battery then apply a load test on the battery.
If your battery is OK. Then there are a couple things that could go wrong. No
voltage from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. Next is the starter
solenoid has gone south faster than Willy Coyota can catch the Road Runner. If
both are bad then each needs to be replaced or fixed. Also one more thing the
alternator gone south. Get you can running and check the voltage across the
battery while the car is running it should be about 13.8 to 14.1 volts.

Well, I bought a new battery this afternoon. When I took the old one out it was swollen on both sides and corroded really bad. I also replace fuses and the starter relay. I was hoping that would fix my problem but I was wrong. Still nothing.
sounds like a starter problem or ignition switch
I tried starting it in neutral but it still would not turn over or anything. I took the starter off and had it checked and there is nothing wrong with it. I have not checked the ignition switch though. how could i check it without spending alot of money having it replaced for no reason?
