The "IPR" is and Injector Pressure Regulator. It is a Solenoid used to control the oil pressure created by the High Pressure Oil Pump. The IPR is capable of regulating oil pressure from 0 to 5000 psi. On an 05 6.0l the IPR is located in rear, top, center of the engine in the High pressure oil pump. It can be identified by its gold color. It sticks out of the side of the pump pointing toward the driver side of the truck. It has a 2 wire plug that is held on by a metal clip. usually the ipr and plug are protected in a heat shield so you may not be able to see it right away. Some people mistake and IPR for and ICP. The ICP is a sensor that tells the PCM what the High oil pressure is. ICP stands for Injector Control Pressure. This sensor is located in the passenger side valve cover on and 04, 05 6.0l and in the top of the High pressure oil pump on an 03 6.0l.

Have an f550;lights are still on and I have power but won't start

Diesel? Check the IPR pressure with a scanner. 500 to 800 PSI to start this beast. I don't remember if it is 500 or 800. Anything under, replace the IPR sensor.

Http://youtu.be/T1hf7bPjCEk It won't start in the mornings but starts the rest of the day just fine once started. I don't know how to explain it, please watch the video.

Just did a 2010. 6.0 diesel. Inter cooler problems, ran bad, but ran. Fixed it and had a no start. Keyed it several times and started, started the rest of the day, So we shipped it out to the customer. Came back with no start. Through the scanner on it and no codes. But we weren't getting the oil pressure to start the engine. (takes 500 psi) Cycled the IPR solenoid a dozen times and finally got pressure and started. Replaced it and it hasn't been back. I have worked on plenty of 7.3's and always looked at the IPR solenoid first for no starts. Even told the boss to check the IPR when it came back. He told me 6.0 were different beasts. IPR solenoids aren't cheap, I would put it on a scanner to make sure.

7.3 diesel runs for about ten minutes and shut off...wait 15 - 20 minutes and it restarts and does it again?????

this problem is most lickly do to a ipr regulator failling when hot
it is located on the hi pressure pump when this problem occured
try to cool it of with cold water (garden hose) if it restarts keep
hose on it to see if it runs longer if so replace ipr

Luis

Check the fuel delivery system. Everything on a 6.0 is dependent on the high-pressure oil system to actuate the injectors. If there is a fault in the system, the ECM will not allow the motor to start or run. CHANGE OIL RELIGOUSLY! I'd start with verifying the IPR and IPC are operating correctly. Depending on the year, these are located in different locations. In my 03' they are located under the heat shield below the turbo at the rear of the motor. Need a cool motor to inspect cause you've got to lay on it to access from the top.
