Most parts stores will now check, read and tell you problem for free. Some will clear the codes. Start there.

The service light is indicating there is a fault code either in the ECM or BCM system. The only way in which this can be switched off is to have these codes checked and cleared in these to control unit with a diagnostic tool.

This could be a # of problems but try these: Remove gas cap and carefully inspect it and the fuel filler neck for small cracks and/or distortion/dirt. Under the hood there is a small green cap which is the test port for the evap system, remove it and check the schrader valve to be sure its tight ( left hand threads!!!). Check all hoses attached to this for cracks/breaks.Other than this a diagnostic will have to be ran with a smoke machine to pin point leaks or valve/switch/solenoid/canister failure.

SOURCE: Service engine soon light

The MIL light AKA service engine soon light comes on to warn of a malfunction in the emission control system or a problem with electronic engine controls like fuel control, there will be one or more trouble codes stored in the PCM (powertrain control module) to show what system or sensor has an issue/problem, take the car to any Kragen Auto, Auto Zone or other chain parts store and they will test it for free, write down the trouble code or code's and post them back on this same thread for me to look at, then we will have some info on what to fix to get the light to go out, also have them reset the light when they test it, it will come back on in a few days, but maybe we can fix it before then, OK?

in each wheel you have a traction control sensor that feeds info to the computer. You may have pinched one of the wires. I also had the same thing happen and found that was the answer.

2004 Malibu panel shows check gas cap

Check for applicable trouble codes, see if anything related to evap system? Your emissions system probably pulls a small vacuum on the gas tank and evap system to check for leaks, If it doesn't pass the test, you will get an evap code or gas cap lite? The place that replaced exhaust system can they check for trouble codes? Anything?
To check for codes, yourself, at the least, you need an obd 2 code reader.
I don't know if exhaust repair caused a problem or just coincidence?

Ì can't get the gas cap off, any ideas

One or two things. Does the cap lock with a key? If so, the cap is either still locked or is remaining in the locked position. Get it to a lock specialist as soon as possible. Another possibility is that the lip on the tank filler neck is damaged, and the solution is to force the cap off. If nothing else works, you can remove the filler neck from the tank by undoing the flexible hose that holds the neck to the tank, the bracket/s that holds the neck to the body of the car - this must be done usually from the underside of the car, and there should also be screws that hold the filler neck to the body inside the filler well. It is a finicky job, but if you can do this, you can take the neck complete with cap to someone who can help, or get a new neck from the dealer or a breaker yard and fit a new cap.

My 2000 ford taurus won't fuel up and we have checked the evap and the vents and they are good the checked the power coming from the slosh module and there wasn't any could that be why it isn't fueling

This is from Fred's Auto on a Ford Taurus Forum:
Hello to your question on the ford taurus being hard to put gas in . replace the filler neck. or remove the filler neck. and when you get the neck out of the tank you will see another tube/hose in the center of the filler tube cut about 2" of the end of the center tube. the problem is that the tube over time with pressure in the tank and tube being soaked in the gas for along period time it gets soft and tube starts to close shut. i find that if you put a hard piece pipe on the end you will never have this problem again. also there is a vent tube on top of the tank(witch you do not have to remove the tank) and make sure it is not crushed shut.. this is a very easy repair. this will 100% fix your problem.

Randy said: well here is what I found. There was a small piece of hose inside my fuel fill hose. It just seem like something was blocking the fuel, so I went under and tried to squeeze on the hose and I couldnot squeeze it into like you should be able to do. so I took the hose clamp loose and hose off end of fill neck and reached inside with needle nose pliers and pulled out a smaller section of hose that I am being now told should not have been in there,by service managers.
Another guy suggests starting your car with the gas cap off.
And some others said look inside for a tiny piece of foil that accidentally came off the top of a fuel additive.
I hope that helps!

My trouble code is p0456 what is my problem my check egine lite is on

There is a small air leak in the vehicles Evap system. This includes the fuel cap, fuel filler neck, fuel tank, all evap lines and solenoids that could be the problem. Most common are the filler neck where the gas cap goes...sometime you can see small cracks.

2006 Avalon Limited with 40,500 miles. Like new. Seatbelt was closed in the driver side door and batter was drained. I charged the battery and everything seemed ok. The following fault codes are now...

Yea VSC lite will come on when ever a check engine lite is On, the codes you mentioned are certainly a EVAP codes, make sure your gas cap is a factory and inspect seal surface and contac surface on filler neck for rust clean if any, also check all hoses going into air box reconect if necesary, (have your car been in any accident) if have access to a scan tool resest lite if lite comes back no other option take it to a dealer, check for warranty coverage on this systems.
good luck

My check engine light came on and the automotive people checked with their machine and the machine stated small evapore emissions leak and determined it was becasue of my fuel cap. I bought a new one yet...

Although a fuel cap can cause this error, any leaks in the gas tank including the return line to the evaporative canister, or the connections above and below the filler neck, can cause the problem you describe.

It was a good guess that the gas tank cap caused this problem, but now that you have replaced it, should look for leaks elsewhere down the line.

Missing flapper valve on an 06 town & country van's gas tank

I doubt if that is the reason your check engine light is on. It is more likely an o2 sensor. However make sure your cap is tight when you add gas and don't leave the engine running while the cap is off. That can trigger the light
