I've got a Ford mustang GT with 20 inch wheels on it, the right rear wheel is flat. I manage to remove the 4 four nuts perfectly but the 1 is stripped it rotates at the side shafts where the studs are in. I want to remove it without damaging my mag rims?
Use a chisel use caution not t o hit the rim split the nut .

U can go to some auto parts stores & they may have a special socket for taking off stripped lug nuts or lug nuts that won't budge.
Also, try Sears, Home Depot Lowe's & hardware stores.
I tried Harbor Freight but they don't have the sockets in 1/2 in drives, which U definitely need.
Hope this helps.
I live in Houston TX.

normally you can take off the spindel but if you remove brake disk and back plate you should be able to punch out the studs with no problem and than push new one in and press it in by tapping it with hammer on the back and than putting some washers over it and than tightening the lug nuts.
Or if you are comfortable with it remove the whole spindel section and put it on a work bench

Go to a NAPA store and either ask them, when you buy the studs...or buy a Chiltons manual $20 and read
Good Luck
SOURCE: wheel nuts on back wheel of 06 ford focus stripped.
Hi Ray,
I put in some time at an auto salvage yard. Aluminum wheels were big sellers and not something we wanted to damage.
When the lug nuts needed some persuading, we got out the high impact 12 pt deep sockets.
First try we used the correct size.
If they were stripped, one size smaller. We hammer them on to the lug and use a breaker bar with a pipe extension.
The only real problems we had were getting the lug nuts out of the sockets.
Good luck and best regards,
Mike
Testimonial: "Most helpful although i am still having problems, it seems that the lug nuts are so soft rather than loosening the nut the socket just spins on the nu"

yes it is one big nut, however it looks like 4 individual nuts due to the fact that they are a thinly stacked layer or thin nuts held together by what you called the tab washer............only way to replace is to get a new one from ford........
Testimonial: "Thank-you for that, I have ordered a new one from the ford dealers. I just wonder why the 4 nuts were fitted in the first place? thank you"
