Those IAC motors are specific to the engine and have a number on them that has to be matched.

SOURCE: 2001 v6 escape rough idle when cold

To update my earlier repair on the 2001 6 cyl Escape: When cold, and when the ignition was turned over but no accelerator pressure given, the rough idle finally returned the P0303 code again when the check engine light came on indicating that it wasn't caused by the plugs or the coil. FYI, I had replaced the intake manifold gaskets during the original repair and just prior to that I had replaced the fuel filter which was very dirty (I cut it open to see).

The repair manual referred to fuel injectors as a possible problem. I have run three tanks of fuel using different injector cleaning products and am very pleased with the results. Cold starts are much smoother and I am unable to coax out the P0303 code or any other code.

My opinion, change the fuel filter, use a fuel injector cleaner for a couple of tanks, change the plugs if the problem still exists. The coils were not the problem on my vehicle.

SOURCE: engine races hot or cold

It sounds very much like the idle air valve is faulty as I have just had same sort of problem I fitted a new idle air valve and it has cured mine. Unfortunately these idle air valves are not cheap. They are about £70 from ford but you can get them on ebay for about £30 from partsdome

It is possible that the transmission filter and governor solenoid need to be changed. I have a similar problem. Try letting your Jeep warm up for about 15 minutes before you take off. This has solved my problem for now, but I know that I need to change the filter and while the tranny pan is off, going to replace governor solenoid.

Check and repair any diagnostic codes, Clean the Throttle body and IAC unit (Idle Air Control). Check for any vacuum leaks.

2001 FOCUS starts fine unless on a hot day after running errends, will not start, if you keep your foot on gas keeps running but when you take your foot off it stops. Will start up again when cooled 15...

I would go with the fuel pump or the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) Due to the fact that you have to keep the throttle on to keep the vehicle running that would be a sign of a faulty fuel pump or IAC. I would have the mechanic do a little more diagnostics before letting them cut lose on doing just one or the other.

Where is the idle air control valve

Here is a web site to show you a picture of what you are looking for: http://www.theautopartsshop.com/auto+car-usa+parts/ford+focus+idle-air-control-valve.html

Here is how to fix it:

  • Unplug the electrical connector on the IAC valve located on the back of the throttle body near the firewall. No tools are needed to unplug the connector. Squeeze the release tab on the plug and pull to remove it.

  • Unbolt the two 8-mm attaching bolts attaching the IAC valve to the throttle body using an 8-mm socket and socket wrench from the socket set. Remove the IAC valve and gasket from the engine compartment.
  • Position the new valve and gasket in place on the throttle body, and bolt it to the throttle body using the 8-mm bolts and the socket and socket wrench. Avoid over-tightening as the throttle body is easily stripped out by over-tightening the fine-thread 8-mm bolts. Plug the electrical connector into the new valve, and push it on until it snaps into place.
  • Turn the ignition key to the run position but do not start it at this time. Unplug the electrical connector once again, and turn the key off.

  • Start the engine, and adjust the minimum air rate by turning the adjusting screw located on the throttle cable side of the throttle body until the idle speed is 650 rpm plus/minus 50 rpm. Turn the engine off, and plug the electrical connector back in--pushing until it clicks into place.

2003 ford focus rpm runs high when clutch is engaged

since this is a standard and you need to engage the clutch which basically shifts you into neutral to shift gears, this ALMOST sounds like the idle air control valve.

My RPM is always at 3000

it sounds like you have a stuck IAC, Idle Air Control Valve. It meters air in when the throttle plate is colosed (foot off gas).

Autozone can scan for fault codes for free.

May just need cleaning. Try that first.

    1. Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector (air cleaner outlet tube removed for clarity).

Idle too high +goes higher when put in gear (manual transmision

IAC valve problem. Nissan has a updated harness (with one way diode inside of the harness) to prevent backfeeding for the IAC valve and a new IAC valve also gets installed. That's where I would look. IAC valve or "idle air control" valve.
