It's the valley of the engine underneath the intake manifold. It's about an $800 job because the top of the engine has to come off. However, unless you have a supercharged xterra it shouldn't effect performance. Also, the knock sensor will not trip the check engine light, as it does not indicate a primary problem, so if your light is on you should have another code that should be fixed first.

My '04 Xterra cranks but will not start, I have chased down all codes and have replaced alternator, starter, knock sensor, evap canister solenoid and fuel filter with no results.

Might want to check your spark plugs and ignition coils or rotor/cap, whichever it has. Sounds like its not getting spark to turn engine over possibly. Also the injectors or fuel pump itself. Best of luck!

I have a 2003 nissan xterra and when I crank it up a loud knocking noise can be heard I do mean loud. I took it to autozone a while back when the check engine light was on and they said I needed a new...

I would have to be there to hear it. You may want to have it towed to a shop to get their opinion.
A knocking noise is usually a rod bearing or other internal engine part, and very serious damage can result.

I have on 01 xterra-service engine light on-codes P1126 & P0325. I think the battery is about to go,could it be realated to codes? Otherwise what do the codes mean? Appreciate any help

Your battery has nothing to do with these codes. Your vehicles computers have detected a malfunction or failure in the system. This triggers these codes and sets your check engine light. Below I have listed the code meanings and some repair solutions.

P1126 - Throttle Position (Narrow Range) Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

Power supply for the throttle control motor is provided to the ECM via throttle control motor relay. The throttle control motor relay is ON/OFF controlled by the ECM. When the ignition switch is turned ON, the ECM sends an ON signal to throttle control motor relay and battery voltage is provided to the ECM. When the ignition switch is turned OFF, the ECM sends an OFF signal to throttle control motor relay and battery voltage is not provided to the ECM.

Possible Causes For P1126:
- Harness or connectors (Throttle control motor relay circuit is open)
- Throttle control motor relay

P0325 - Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction

The knock sensor is attached to the cylinder block. It senses engine knocking using a piezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM).

Possible Causes For P0325:
- Knock sensor circuit short to ground.
- Knock sensor circuit short to power.
- Knock sensor circuit open.
- Damaged knock sensor.
- Damaged PCM or ECM

Possible Solutions:
- Repair or resecure harness or connector
- Replace knock sensor Bank 1 (Bank 1 if applicable)
- Replace PCM or ECM

The P0325 DTC is a very common problem with Nissan vehicles. On most Nissan vehicles the knock sensor is located on top of the engine block.

2000 Nissan Xterra Service Engine soon indicator is always on

The knock sensor is not a huge deal to replace and will not turn on the light. It should be dont though.

The crankshaft sensor is located directly between the engine and transmission. It is dead center at the bottom.

2004 Nissan Xterra 75,000 miles

I have never heard of a knock sensor, the engine light on is usually do to a fuel air problem such has o2 sensors gas caps not sealing right or mass air flow sensors, the a/c problem sounds like if there are no leaks in system then your high low sensors one of them could have failed or your system froze up and needs to thaw if it froze let sit you will see a puddle of water on ground passenger side under vehicle close to engine this is from the evaporator if it froze up it will not allow air flow to go through it therefore you will get only heat turn heater on this will help thaw the evaporator quicker this freezing is usually due to an overcharged system or a system that is contaminated and needs flushed vacuemed and recharged.
