Taking out alternater

Hi,if you are talking about the red light for the alternater is on then it means that the car is not charging,and the fuel light is to do with the sender unit in the fuel tank.
to see if the alternater is working ok you need to put a mullty metre on the battery and see what the voltidge is,get some one to press the frotal pedal you should see the reading jump up from 12v to about 14v approx,if the valtidge drops bellow 12v or dose not increase then the alternater is falty replace,
then to check that the fuel sender is working find the wires on the fuel tank take off and join together switch on ignition if the fuel diyal dose not go to full then replace the gauge if it dose go to full replace sender.

Hi Maureen,here's a guide on how to replace the alternator,here's what it look's like.If you are replacing,take to auto part store and match up,If you need to check,autozone will do it for free,just drive there if you can.

you may have a loose wire some were conecting to alternater.

if not, first you may have to take the alternater from the engine
at the rear of the alternator you will find two plastic tabs protruding slitly from main body
of alternator
these are known as brushes, take them out .the tips of these, are made of carben.
thay are normaly one inch approximatley.in length, when new.
if less than half an inch, you may need to replace them.
this may be your problem.
if still not charging you will have to replace alternator as the armature maybe worn to eccece.

Take it to local parts and have them test alternater, usaully free test probably bad alternater. There is a good chance the blower motor went out. Probably need to replace as well

If the alternater light has come on in the car that means that the alternater is bad and you need to replace. You can also have it checked at your local auto parts store if you would like.

WORKING FROM THE FRONT; YOU NEED A SIZE 17 SOCKET ON A TBAR.THE ALTERNATER IS ON DRIVER SIDE AT THE BACK.THERE ARE THREE BOLTS TO LOOSEN (DONT TAKE THEM RIGHT OFF) . PULL THE ALTERNATER TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE CAR, SLIP BELT OVER CRANK PULLEY THEN OVER ALTERNATER PULLEY .LEVER ALTERNATER BACK TO TIGHTEN BELT,THEN RETIGHTEN 3 BOLTS

Therere is a voltage regulator in the alternater. Take the alternater out and have it tested.

Take it to a mechanic.

check to make sure there is a belt on the alternater take it to a local auto parts store to have them test your battery and alternater dont go to far though you might get stranded replace the alternater if its frading under 13.0 volts output

On the 2001, it is located on the right side of the engine, below the belt driven items. There are three bolts holding it in place, including a very long one that is attached through the bottom belt pulley. You will need to remove the radiator in order to get the alternator out. There is no way around it besides lifting the engine. It is possible to remove the alternator, but there is not enough room to maneuver the thing out of the engine unless you remove the radiator. Unless you are or know a handy mechanic in your family, you will need to pay to have this done. It takes about an hour and a half to do.
