Brake lights i am trying to replace the bulb for my brake lights. i don't know how to take the lens cover off to get at the bulb.

  • pconlin277 Nov 12, 2008

Same issue. Following instructions in the manual but it seems to jump from removing the mounting screws to removing the bulb without describing how to gain access to the bulb by removing the cover the mounting screws were holding on. There must be a trick too it. Probably something so simple it's easily overlooked.

From inside the trunk unscrew the three nuts then pull the lens or light cover off from the outside of the car there you will be able to replace all of the bulbs..

SOURCE: rear tail light lens removal

Hello riggs791. My name is Roger and I will help you. Raise the lift gate. In the rain drip rail you will find two screws through the lens to the body. Remove the two screws. Carefully pull on the lens. What you are removing to get to the tail lamp bulb is the entire lamp. The front outside edge of the lens has two lock in clips. Once you have the lamp loose turn it over and unlock the socket and replace the light. Reverse to reinstall the lamp.
Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the quality of your answer. This way we know the answer helped. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

SOURCE: I am trying to replace the brake light bulb on 97

Open the trunk and remove the fabric insert located by the tail light. There should be 2 plastic nuts toward the center-most part, one above the other about 6 inches apart (One above the other). Then on the quarter panel side (where the light comes to a point on the outside) there should be just one. Making a total of three nuts to remove it. On the plug there should be a small plastic red clip. Slide it aside and squeeze the tab to remove the plug. After you pull the light out you will see two silver dollar sized circles that hold the light bulb in. Twist this to remove the light bulb. There's also a third smaller one for the smaller bulb.

SOURCE: How do you replace brake light bulb on a 2006

you need to remove the 2 torx screws (accessable when you open the tail gate). once they are out, you are able to pull the whole tail lamp assembly out of its position, and then turn the socket counter clockwise to remove it from the assembly. replace the bulb, and reassemble. good luck!

Can I just replace the third brake light bulb only ..just the bulb.on a 2005 Chevy Malibu LS.or do I have to replace the hole brake light itself..

from inside the trunk looking up at the light First, gently work the gray, carpet like cover loose from the area around the tail light ,(this may give you a little trouble). Once you have done this, you will see three silver nuts. These must be unscrewed. The lower left nut must be accessed through a hole next to where the trunk lid fits. (The screws are permanently attached to the lens housing so will not drop into obscurity when the nuts are removed). After removing the nuts, GENTLY work the lens housing away from the car. You may need a screw driver to unseat the housing, but just be gentle.

You will find three bulbs inside the lens. The brake light bulb is on the lower right side. Simply pull the old bulb out and insert the new one.

Just reverse these directions to reassemble the housing.

How do you remove rear brake light lens?

most of the time, there is an access area inside the vehicle behind the housing. There may be screws or clips holding the trim/cover in place. Removing that should give you access to replace a bulb or to the nuts that are holding the light assembly to the vehicle.

Can't remove lens cover on rear to access burned out bulb. Screws are out but don't want to crack the cover.

it may be possible that you don't have to remove the lens cover to replace the bulb, in most modern vehicles the bulbs come out from inside the trunk by turning the fitting & pulling the bulb out & replace it the same way by putting it back in & turning it in the opposite direction to lock it in place.......hope this helps......cheers.

How to change the inside overhead brake lights in an 86 corvette

Hi,
1.Remove the two Phillips head screws from the brake light lens cover.
2.
Pull the lens cover away from the tail light panel. Set it aside on a soft surface because the lens scratches easily.

3.Push in the bad brake light bulb. Twist it counterclockwise to disconnect it from the socket
4.
Insert the new brake light bulb while wearing gloves. Twist it clockwise to secure it to the socket.

5.
Re-position the lens cover. Push it in firmly to secure it, and then tighten the two screws.

Good luck!!!!!

How to change a tail light bulb on 2008 malibu? Not the version with the wingnuts, but the "Up Model" version that says call the dealer.

  1. Step 1 Determine how the bulb is accessed: On some models the lens (the red or white plastic part over the light) must be unscrewed from the outside, and on others the bulb is accessible only from inside the trunk. If there are no screws on the lens, you can assume that the bulb must be replaced from inside. Usually there will be a plastic cover that must be removed in order to access the bulb. There may be tabs, screws or small knobs that hold this plastic cover in place.

  4. Step 4 Take the bulb with you to the auto supply store to help you find an exact duplicate.

Again, you'll have to push in and turn simultaneously. Line up the tiny raised bumps on the base of the bulb in order to screw it in.
