You will need to do a 2 trip monitor drive cycle. What this means it needs to see 2 cold start up, from 60 F to operating temperature of 210F.and driven around town, for at least 15 minutes, then shut down for at least 5 minutes then driven again. Each manufacture has a precise way of doing this monitor set, from my experience go around town, your a 1997 the only monitor you dont have to set is evap.Simply explained just drive it

How do i change a waterpump on a 2001Volkswagen cabrio?

Your Cabrio has one of several 2.0L Volkswagen engines - determine your engine type from the
8th digit of your VIN, which will be either an "A", or "C",both are 2.0L engines.

Volkswagen 2.0L engines offered in 2001:
(a) 2.0L (Aba) Engine
(b) 2.0L (Aeg/Avh/Azg/Bdc/Bev/Bgd) Engine
(c) 2.0L (Aeg/Avh/Azg/Bdf) Engine

For completeness, I've included the water pump maintenance manual entries for all (3) 2.0L VW
engines offered in 2001. Note that the instructions below include (3) illustrations, which are
reproduced faithfully from the manual, but the last (2) illustrations are identical, since the last two
engines in the list above are virtually identical.

My Mitsubishi Endeavor (2005) has run 60000 miles. I am going to change Timing Belt. Is Water Pump actuated by the Timing Belt ? So does it make sense to change the Water Pump at the same time? Thanks in...

Yes indeed, the water pump is driven by the timing belt on this vehicle and you would be well advised to change it and the idlers while you are at it. You can get timing belt kits for this vehicle that include the belt, 2 idlers and the water pump. In the UK, the kit is priced at about £70

ENGINE OVER HEATING REPLACED THERMOSTAT,CANT FIND WATER PUMP MITSUBISHI MONTERO 2001

Your water pump is driven by the timing belt; to access you will need to remove the forward portion of the engine (pumps/alternator/belts and such) when replacing the water pump you wll need to remove and then replace the timing belt and tensioner. Much care is needed to to insure the proper timing or things can go very bad. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the easiest) I'd give this a 6.5 to 7.

I hope this may have assisted you,

It's under the timing cover on the front of the engine. I have pasted autozone.com instructions to replace the water pump below.

3.0L & 3.5L Engines

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. If necessary, properly release the fuel pressure.
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
CAUTION Wait at least 90 seconds after the negative battery cable is disconnected to prevent possible deployment of the air bag.

Upper radiator shroud Accessory belts Air conditioning compressor tensioner pulley, if equipped Cooling fan and clutch assembly and the water pump pulley Thermostat and housing on 3.0L, 3.5L engines Water outlet, gasket and houses Radiator hoses from the water pump Crankshaft pulley(s) Timing belt covers. If the same timing belt will be reused, mark the direction of the timing belt's rotation, for installation in the same direction. Be sure the engine is positioned so the No. 1 cylinder is at the TDC of its compression stroke and the sprockets timing marks are aligned with the engine's timing mark indicators. Timing belt Water pump bolts are different lengths, note their positions before removing. Water pump from the block Water pipe connection and O-ring

To install:
  1. Clean and dry the mating surfaces of the block and water pump
  2. Install or connect the following:

New O-ring on the water pipe connection, wet the new O-ring with water to aid in installation Water pump, with a new gasket, Torque the bolts to 17 ft. lbs. Water pump pulley Cooling fan and clutch assembly Air conditioning compressor tensioner pulley, if equipped Accessory belts Upper radiator shroud Thermostat and housing on 3.0L, 3.5L engines Negative battery cable
  3. Refill the radiator with coolant. This cooling system has a self-bleeding thermostat, so system bleeding is not required.
  4. Run the vehicle until the thermostat opens and fill the overflow tank. Check for leaks.
  5. Once the vehicle has cooled, recheck the coolant level.

1997 montero sport 3000 24valve v6

The most likely senario is that the water pump went bad which caused the overheating in the first place. Then after the engine shut down, the water pump seized up. When the engine was restarted, the timing belt started to smoke because the water pump, which runs off the timing belt, was not turning. Since the engine overheated to the point of shutting down, blown head gaskets are a possibility. Put a new timing belt and water pump on it and start it up. If it runs OK, you're good to go.
