This all depends on if it is a wheel sensor. you will need to locate the sensor which is one on each wheel, remove the sensor and just clean off. reinstall sensor.
The best thing to do is have the computer scanned to see what code is stored, the code will tell you what the problem may be. For example if there is a code that reads left front speed sensor signal loss. then you would check that sensor and the connector to sensor, you would also look at abs tone ring. the tone ring is the ring that the sensor ride over.
I am not sure if the ring is external, you will need to look and see, cleaning the ring is a good idea also. good day.

SOURCE: Engine won't start on Jaguar XJ8 Vandenplas TRAC NOT AVAILABLE

hey blackdiam522,
First did you have a check engine light, and do you know what the code was if you did?

Ok, the traction control not available isnt goin to affect the car from starting.During my year of a jaguar tech the most common for a crank, no start is a flooded engine. Now the two most causes for a flooded engine on these jags are 1. the weather is just super cold and all the own does is keep cranking the car to try to get to start. 2. A lot of short trip, a lot of city driving, 15 mins or less.

When you get something like this, a no start crank, you have to pump the gas pedal really fast, like your starting an oil muscle car. this forces more air into the engine.

when this no start happend u could get all these codes, what i maybe would recommend is a tune up, and some highway driving every once and a while to kept this from happening again, hopefully this helps, thanks.

SOURCE: 1998 jaguar xj8 consumes anti-freeze

First thing to check is the radiator cap seal. If it is not sealing properly, the water will boil off and then soon, the anti freeze will begin to disappear. Clean the metal surfaces and gasket and make sure it is tight ---or buy a new cap --but make sure there is a seal. If that doesn't cure it, you may have a head gasket leak that blows the coolant (anti freeze) into one cylinder. If that cylinder is tight, the coolant will only evaporate in the heat and be blown out the exhaust --not entering the oil pan. Check your exhaust when you start up. You may see white smoke, or even liquid, exiting the exhaust pipe, indicating a blown head gasket (then engine may run rough, too). If this is the case, there are reasonably inexpensive cures for this in some cases.

SOURCE: very noisy squeky fron suspension on jaguar xj8

You might need a lube job or you may need to see if noise is coming from another place such as your engine water pump, brakes, power steering. Look for leaks.

What is ASC

ASC is a brand of Traction Control. It reduces engine power if the wheels begin slipping under heavy acceleration.

BMW used this brand for their first traction control system, which was replaced with ASC+T. ASC+T also brakes the slipping wheel to more quickly regain traction. Later ASC+T was replaced with DSC, their stability control brand.

Traction control systems have been replaced by more comprehensive stability control systems (mandatory on new cars in many countries), which ensure the car is always pointing in the direction you are steering.

Jaguar xj8 4.0 SE

sounds like a abs sensor has gone down or a common problem is the link leads on the front going open circuit it would be helpfull if you get someone to get the fault codes from the abs module, you can check the link leads and the sensors using a ohmmeter i think the sensor resistance should be about 1100 ohms.

ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STAYS ON

ABS = Anti-lock Brake System.
TC = Traction Control System (Engine Control Module).
If the ABS lights on the dashboard permanently the ABS system is faulty. You must access the ABS & TC Electronic Control Units (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ABS ECU, in other words reset the ABS system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.

I suspect bad brake pedal switch, but you should scan the ABS & TC ECU's.

My 2000 Jaguar XJ8 has several different warning lights on. Trac, ASC, and Transmission. Then the amber engine symbol came on. The car died while I was driving and it started again. Am I safe to...

42 miles with a jaguar. First I love Jaguars. Youll get to your home by a tow truck. The car is talking to you say its sick. Here is what will happen, The TRAC, ASC, light is on okay the APP will now go to limp home mode what this mean it will default giving limited operations, youll probable just go 30mph, and that is just it. The transmission does not know what gear or how fast its going so it communicates to the powertrain it tell it I dont know what Im doing so it activates the traction control and say keep me safe the traction control say okay Ill get disable, then the transmission control tell the powertrain I could be burning up or slipping. So The APP(acclerator pedal position ) gets involved and say we will just limp on home.Remeber i love juguars so does tow trucks

What is the price of Automatic stability control plus traction

This is a question you should pose to a salvage yard, or better yet to one of those salvage parts finder services on the web. That is a popular part for cars of this vintage, so good luck.
I presume that you have ruled out the wheel sensors and wiring and have determined that the ASC control module has failed?
BTW, the most common cause of an ASC warning light on this vintage BMW (after damaged wheel sensors) is the ASC throttle (aka Secondary Throttle) which is right next to your regular throttle. If its cable is bound, or its electrical connection is damaged, or anything (such as the throttle boot hose clamp) interferes with the action of its throttle plate, it will prevent the ASC from working.

Failsafe engine mode Asc Trac Not Available

I had the same issue...I went to Auto Zone and got a diagnostic...Came back that my Throttle Position Sensor was faulty...However after taking it to the dealer, and paying 135.00 for THEIR diagnostic...You can't simply buy the sensor. You have to buy a new Throttle Body at 902.00 + Tax atleast here in Vegas. I hope it's not your problem, but go get a FREE diagnostic first.
