Check the idle air control device-maybe clogged with deposits. The engine computer controls idle speed through this valve or motor. By increasing or decreasing the amount of air let into the intake manifold.
What Colorado do you have ? 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive ? Sport ,sport LS 3.5L , Z71, Z71 LS. etc. what size engine ? an does it have electronic throttle control ? I have factory service info an it is not showing that code .
DTC P0506
Circuit Description
The throttle actuator control (TAC) motor is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM). The DC motor located in the throttle body drives the throttle plate. In order to decrease idle speed, the PCM commands the throttle closed reducing air flow into the engine and the idle speed decreases. In order to increase idle speed, the PCM commands the throttle plate open allowing more air to pass the throttle plate. If the actual idle RPM does not match the desired idle RPM within a calibrated time, this DTC sets.
DTC Descriptor
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC P0506 Idle Speed Low
DTC P0507

Can you keep it running if you increase rpm by pedal? If so then you've got to increase idle. It could also be the idle bypass which is a small orifice that allows air into the carburetor to keep the engine at idle. It could be plugged. It's usually adjustable with a screw to allow more or less air in this increasing or decreasing the idle. See if you can take the screw out and squirt some carb cleaner in there and put the acre back in. See if that does it.
you should have an idle screw by the throttle body lever. usually, all that is required is to turn the screw clockwise to increase idle speed, counterclockwise to decrease the idle speed.
Hi Malcolm, We need to know what vehicle and what engine you are referring to. The earlier injection engines did have an air volume screw which increased or decreased the idle speed, but on later models the control is computerized and not adjustable. Have a diagnostic scan carried out as there may be a defective temperature sensor and if so it may be sending incorrect info the the management system, increasing the idle speed. Regards John
you should be able to adjust it by the trottle cable check under the hood and see if theres not two nuts holding your trottle cable in place if so ajust if need be. this is a easier way to increase your rpm at idle but you shouldnt be able to decre your rpms at idle this way. for that yu may have to look and see if there is a adjustment screw on your trottlebody that can increase and decrease your rpm at idle. if your have a low idle problem try cleaning the inside of your trottle body really good with a lint free rag and some trottle body cleaner also try cleaning your idle control vavle if cleaning your trottlebody didnt help.
It is on the plate that moves and attaches to throttle cable. This plate rests against the idle screw. Turn clockwise to increase and counter to decrease.
