Could not drive up hill...so i put it into 4lo while parked. it got me up the hill...i then got n top the hill then put it into 2hi drove slow then picked up speed and it wouldnt go more then 30mps. so i put it back into park then pushe the 2hi button and things seem to be working fine after that....a couple days later it snowed really hard for two days...next morning while parked i put it into 4hi and then start driving.... bout 2miles out it the gas pedal had to have more force applied in order for it to actually show that i was going any faster. the rpms were high and the truck sound like i was going faster then i really was. so i then pulled over, put it into park and put it into 2hi....the problem got worse when i put it back into to drive. the rpms were at about 3000RPMS before i even switched the first gear i was going at about 10mph maybe less. still it sketched me out so i pulled over again, parked and started the process all over again in the 1st half mile since i when i had done it the first time. park, 4hi,2hi..still nothing. well so i drove at about 25mphs for a good couple miles and it started to **** and the rpms were increasing and decreasing at a fast fast pace. pulled over and sat. pressed 4hi, 2hi, all while pressing the brake everytime might i add (ive never used 4 whd anything before and nobody was answering their phones so i couldnt asked how to put it into 4hi or lo) i tried to put it into 4lo and the 4hi light would come on and the 4lo would blink and shut off..so i continued the prcess then slowly put it in drive, OD, N,R,P and then shut it off, started it back up ...all was ok. till yesterday night...i was the RpMS stayed at constant 1000 in park..... ? and when accelerating..it would rev and hit abot 3000rpms before it was up to 20mph!! pulled over parked it did the process and it went back to its norm. later in the day i was backing out of a heavily snowed in driveway and put it in 4wd and it started making noises that sounded like the muffler shaking and hitting the underside of the truck..that stopped and next came a noise from the front of the truck that would only sound off when accelerating even out of 4hi and in 2hi....then it just continued even when not pushing the gas pedal,,,? any ideas?! because i would put it in 4wd and starte to reverse and there were no sounds, she drove just perfet...but in a dive its a whole ther thing!!!!!!! WTF!!!!! so i drove real slow and the battery, oil, rpms gauges were all going up and down and just acting crazy. .....idk what to do...sorry for the novel :) figured every detail helped.

Most common problem is the vacuum diaphragm that is so inconviently mounted UNDER the battery tray. The cable that locks in the front diff is attached to it and vacuum pulls it in/out.

Mine is on the front drivers side, is yours? I just about fell over when I discovered who they designed it!

vacuum leak or vacuum locker solenoid problem. a great way to check for both is to remove both vacuum lines from the solenoid (located on firewall above destributor), and put a connector between them, push the button on the dash and see if it locks in.
