SOURCE: exhaust issue

Most likely the heat shield has corroded off and is just sitting on top of the muffler or Catalytic converter. Regardless you can remove the shield and still run the the Xterra without any problems, the OEM muffler came with a heat shield as to the after market mufflers don't have one. The Catalytic converter also has a shield and you can remove it also as the Xterra has a heat shield on the floor board it self. Most exhaust shop if honest will tell you to just remove the rattling shield if there is no exhaust leaks or no Check engine light on that monitor's the Catalytic converter's performance.
A muffler shop if shady may advise you to replace the Catalytic converter and that can go for up to and beyond $400.00, so as long as there is no leaks or check engine light on. Go right ahead and remove the rattling shield.

SOURCE: Gear oil leak in front and gear shift lever loose

I would have a mechanic look at it for you. Sounds like it could be an oil seal or it could have a crack in the case or it could be a rear engine seal is shot ?

SOURCE: loosing oil, no spots or puddles on ground, no

A very common issue with the 1.9L engine is oil consumption. You may not see alot of blue smoke out of the exaust but it is very typical for this engine to consume oil without any visible leaks.

Testimonial: "thanks for the heads up, I'll have to give my daughter a lesson on how to check the oil and add when necessary. thanks again."

Oil leak 87 f350

Because oil travels before it drips, 2 possibilities.
Easiest: Valve cover gaskets.
Hardest: Rear main oil seal.
Test: Raise truck up in the air.
Spray wet oil location with cleaning spray such as "engine grease remover" or "brake clean" to get oil off.
Take a strong light and watch the motor whilst it is running.
You should see leak.
There is a dye you can buy and put into the oil to help you see the leak better.
God bless your efforts.

Excessive oil loss

worn valve guides are indicated when after the engine has been idiling for a while ie at lights etc there is blue smoke from the exhaust when the engine is given some revs. check under the vehicle for oil leaks. they will show up as wet on the underbody. check all oil hoses. loose or faulty oil filter. loose sump plug etc. with that amount of consumption something should be obvious. How having said that I rebuilt a 4 cyl petrol motor for a dodge fuso 3 ton truck and it empied the sump in 100 miles It had a ring problem.. If the motor has been rebuilt it is possible the rings are fitted upside down and act as a pump pushing the oil into the combustion chamber

2003 lincoln aviator/how do you know if there's motor damage

Your car shouldn't have just suddenly started burning oil. Its possible it's leaking in the engine compartment and the leak is dripping onto the hot exhaust manifold and the. The smoke is blowing out the back as you drive. I would think it's unlikely that the engine has been damaged since the check-engine light should have come on if the oil level was low enough to cause damage.

If hii find that bluish smoke is coming from the exhaust pipes, then the next thing to check is whether it smokes on acceleration or deceleration. If the latter, it may be just a valve issue. If it smokes a lot on startup, then it may be rings.

My 97 honda accord is blowing white smoke and running rough then i went to start it now it wont start

Sounds like either a blown motor (rings need replaced) or a bad head gasket or cracked head.
If the rings are bad your car would have felt like it was losing power because the engine will no longer have the same high compression that it's required to turn the wheels. You may have heard your engine knocking or seen a light blue colored smoke coming from your exhaust as a result of your engine burning up oil in the combustion chamber from the rings leaking.
If your head gasket is leaking or your head is cracked you'd likely find milky looking oil when you drain your oil from water/antifreeze being mixed in and noticed a white smoke coming from your exhaust that is actually water vapor coming through the exhaust.
If your car was running rough when you last shut it off try pulling all of your spark plugs and either cleaning them or replacing them all. A bad head gasket or bad rings can both foul spark plugs. A car will run rough with 1 or 2 fouled plugs, but once enough foul it will no longer run at all just sit and crank over. If changing the plugs get's it started for ya, check your tailpipe first for water, if nothing, change your oil. If no signs of water/antifreeze or milky colored oil then it's probably rings.

F-250 diesels blowing white smoak? Why?

More than likely your loosing fuel pressure, you may need a new under hood fuel filter and the low pressure pump located on the frame rail on the driver side of the truck. The ICP sensor (Injector Control Pressure Switch) could also be bad and cause this. But normally if your blowing white smoak and your loosing power at the same time I would say fuel pressure. But if your not loosing power and just have white smoak I say ICP sensor. Also check your engine oil, if its low or extremely dirty, this can cause this also. It uses the oil pressure to run the ICP sensor to control the injectors.

F350 truck - loss of power feels like not all cylinders are on the go and **** load of black smoke blowing out of exhaust. HELP PLEASE

suspect a bad turbo, alot of black smoke comes out exhaust, suggest you check for oil loss on dip stick, also check for bad oil cooler. but most likely a bad turbo, when the turbo goes bad the turbo door shuts and the engine sucks oil up,and the engine runs on the oil and fuel, but the oil cooler could be bad also.if you're loosing oil out the **ss then i suspect a bad turbo. simple,,, check your oil level after running the engine for a short distance. if the oil levels low, then your engines burning it. bad turbo. either thats it,or you've got bad piston rings. if the piston rings are bad, the engine will have to be rebuilt,or the engine rings will have to be replaced. but don't panic, the turbo is most likely you're issue. thank you for choosing fixya.com. i do however that you check with everyone, then put together a plan that saves you money in the longrun! that's what i would do myself. thank you for choosing fixya.com!!

1998 Malibu 2.4 Litre 4cyl. oil leak under exhaust manifold. Are there any sending units attached to the engine block?

Yes you have an oil pressure sending unit (switch) located under the manifold. They are known for going bad and leaking. Eventually it will prevent truck from running. When it stops sensing oil pressure due to the leak the vehicles fuel system will shut off. Its a saftey featur to keep you from blowing the motoe if a pump goes bad or you run outta oil

sounds like u had a oil pump go bad

if motor ceased it junk now but with this truck only having 72000 miles on it i would put a new motor in it if you do decide to put new motor in it and plan on doing that kind of towing i highly recomend puting a oil cooler on it and high voulme oil pump if this truck has a factory oil cooler that in the radaitor i recomend u disconnect that one and put a aftermarket cooler on it if u do decide to reuse old oil cooler make sure you blow all the old oil out of cooler because it probley has **** in it from motor seizeing
