Normally if oil or transmission fluid mixes with coolant it will turn milky looking like a milkshake. Your leak must be pretty fresh. from your description that it is coming out of the coolant overflow I am thinking you have a radiator transmission cooler leaking into the cooling system.

You will need a new radiator and possibly all the coolant hoses if they have become soft from the transmission fluid.

In most cases if your getting transmission fluid in the radiator it is cause by a bad transmission cooler that is built into the radiator and the fix is to replace the radiator.

The repair will change in price from where the leak is coming from. If the pan is leaking or the rear seal your looking at $100.00 or less. If the front seal is leaking then around $550.00. The most common leak is the pan gasket. Also if the transmission fluid and filter have not been replaced in the last 30,000 miles and the pan is leaking then I suggest doing this also why the pan is off .

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

What is it

if it is indeed hooked to your transmisson, its the transmissoin cooler lines, which are ran to the radiator to get cooled off. The oil cooler cools your engine oil, and has nothing to do with the transmission. If these lines are severed, or cut, your transmission will not operate. It will squirt out all the transmission fluid. I suggest replacing them because if they are already hanging low, then a crimp or weak spot is already in place to cause transmission problems.

Automatic Transmission issues with 1994 plymouth duster sundance

I'm not an expert, but generally if your transmission is filled with transmission fluid as per the manufacturer, then this is a sign of a failing transmission.
Sometimes an adjustment by a qualified mechanic can prolong the transmission's life, but depending on how much driving is done and type of driving, the "fix" can last a month to a few years.
For this car I would recommend buying another car.

Drained transmissoin fluid instead of motor oil on my Ford Explorer XLT, how do i refill transmission fluid?

Insert drain plug, tighten back up. Open hood, look for the transmission dipstick (BE SURE NOT TO USE THE OIL DIPSTICK) refer to your manual or dealer as to it's location. Obtain the proper transmission fluid for your vehicle, get a small funnel that will fit in the dipstick tub (remove the dipstick) and pour in an amount less than specified by your owners manual. Turn on engine, let run for a minute or two then take reading. If your level is low then add small amounts until the desired level is reached. DO NOT OVERFILL. If you're uncomfortable with this procedure, it's best to get assistance.

Take the spark plugs out all of them and then turn the engine like your trying to start it if you see water or antifreeze coming out of any of the plugs you busted a headgasket.
