Fuel flow problem with 1999 crown vic

I am not getting fuel to the engine. When I unplug the fuel line from the fuel filter on the tank side and then turn the engine over, I am not getting any fuel out of the fuel line. If the fuel pump is working, shouldn't I be getting fuel to flow out of the open fuel line?

no, if you think it is too difficult it isnt, just get a manual from the library or an autoparts store , and seriouslt make sure the tanks is low or empty and keep clear from sparks !!!

Crown Vic Fuel Line
I do not recommend doing this.
a 1/4 inch line has a .0491 square inch hole.
a 5/16 inch line has a .0767 square inch hole.
This would result in lowering the flow capacity of the line by over 30%.

You can possibly starve the engine of fuel causing the engine to run lean, which can result in overheating and even worse melting the tops of your pistons in the engine.

Most good automotive stores have many types of brake line and fuel line fittings and adapters you can purchase.

There are two fuel filters one in the tank and one on the frame rail on the inside on the driverside or passenger side of car. follow the fuel lines to the front from the tank you will see where the filter is. You could have other problems as well, a maf or map sensor could be going bad so post here if you need more help. Thanks for using fix-ya and please rate if this helped.

Does the crown vic police intercepter take as much oil as the regular crown vic? (when changing the oil and filter)
I ~think~ the 1999 is the same as the 2000 (mine is a 2000 P71)

The 2000 CVPI (Crown Vic Police Interceptor) owners manual recommends the following:

Engine Oil - Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil 5.0 quarts

Transmission Fluid - Motorcraft Mercon V ATF 13.9 quarts (fluids Mercon & Mercon V are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE, DO NOT MIX)

Fuel Tank - 19.0 gallons

Break Fluid - DOT 3


Rear Axle Lubricant - Motorcraft 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant 3.75 pints (add 4 oz of Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equilavent meeting Ford Spec. EST-M2C118-A for complete refill of Traction-Lok Rear Axles)

Engine Data - 4.6L V8 Engine
Cubic Inches - 281
Required Fuel - 87 Octane
Firing Order - 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Spark Plug Gap - 1.3-1.4 mm (0.052-0.056 inch)
Ignition System - Coil On Plug
Compression Ratio - 10.0:1

if you dont have enough pressure this will happen
when the fuel pressure is good the system will just push the air out through the injectors or the fuel return line

Hello;
It sounds from your description that the fuel pump is weak. To check the fuel pressure you need a fuel pressure test gauge for fuel injection. Attach the gauge to the test port schrader valve and turn the ignition to the on position. Record the reading. Now start the engine and record that reading. Unplug the pressure regulator vacuum line and record the reading.
The pump should have pressure with in specs but if low, start with the installation of a new complete pump. It is located in the fuel tank. Also replace your fuel filter.
