80 is on the high side for those... possibly a sending unit issue

SOURCE: The oil pressure gauge on my 2004 chevy avalanche

it is probably the gage cluster. chevy has had a problem with this and it was recalled. so you might go to your dealer and ask him if they will replace the cluster. mine did that to but as time went on all the other gages went crazy or stopped working .i had to replace the cluster.

SOURCE: while driving gauges drop and radio loses power

It sounds like you have a bad ground. check ground going to body from battery and also check the dash area for ground.
Possible ignition switch on steering column is melting/overheating.
(Switch is plastic with metal tabs. If they heat up too much, plastic melts and there is no contact.)

96 Chevy blazer how do I get out of safe mode ran low on oil now runs an drives but won't let car go fast past 2000rpms

The computing system on your vehicle has no safe mode for running low on oil . The only thing that will happen is the check gauges light will come on.
The oil pressure gauge is an analog device that is located in the IPC. The oil pressure gauge is operated directly by the oil pressure sensor circuit. As the engine oil pressure changes, the resistance of the sensor and the current flow in the oil pressure gauge changes. The current flow in the oil pressure gauge causes the needle to move in order to appropriately display the engine oil pressure. A sensor resistance of 1ohms will display as 0 kPa (0 PSI) and a resistance of 88 ohms will display as 80 kPa (80 PSI ). The IPC also monitors the oil pressure sensor circuit and interprets the current flow in this circuit in order to determine when the engine oil pressure is too low. If the oil pressure is too low, the check gauges tell tale will turn on. The oil pressure sender is located on the left side of the 2.2L. The 4.3L engine, oil pressure sender is located at the top left side, near the distributor/high voltage switch.
Try disconnecting the battery cables an hold them together for ten minutes , reset ECM !

Oil pressure gauge drops to zero and comes back up to 80

Hello, this problem is due to a failing stepper motor. The stepper motor is the motor behind the gauge that controls the
movement of the needle. When a stepper motor begins to go out it will cause the gauge needle to stick, skip around, stay
at zero or max out on the gauge. The only way to fix the problem is to replace the stepper motor with a new one. While
replacing one motor it is best to go ahead and replace them all as the others will go out in time as well. Youre cluster
will have one motor for each gauge. Here's a link to a page showing exactly how to replace a GM stepper motor and where
to get the correct parts to do the job!

Oil pressure guage stays at 40 psi on ign/engine shut down, but drops to 0 psi when ign is turned back on, and then on starting of engine operates normally... What's up ???

the oil pressure gauge only gets a reading when the engine is runningas the oil is being curculated. when you shut the vehicle off it should go back to zero and be there until the vehicle cranks back up. i hope this helps

The oil pressure guage on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee is registering 0. My oil was just changed and I don't see any indication of oil leaking anywhere. Could it be the sensor?

First off I wouldnt drive your car until you make sure that you have indeed oil pressure and that the gauge is a false reading, driving your car if in fact it has no oil pressure will severly damage your engine, but firstly i would check the oil pressure switch its located on the passenger side of the engine right back from the oil filter make sure the connector is clean and free from oil and corrosion if the connector appears to be in good shape take a paper clip and insert it between the 2 terminals inside the connector your oil pressure gauge should peak at 80 PSI that tells you that your gauge and all related wiring are good and in working condition, secondly remove the oil pressure switch and hook an manual oil pressure gauge up to you engine and start the engine the guage should have a oil pressure reading anywhere from 30 PSI to 55PSI depending on engine temperature if theres oil pressure on your manual gauge replace the oil pressure switch with a new unit, if you still have 0 PSI on your gauge then stop your engine immediatly and start looking at your oil pump and lubricating system for a problem.

I have an 02 wrangler and the oil preasure goes down when Idling is that an oil pump going bad?

First we would need to know when this occurs. Asuming the oil level is at the full mark!. If the pressure goes up during acceleration and down at idle when engine is fully warmed up, then this is normal. An engine requires 10 psi of oil pressure per 1,000 rpm ( ex. 20 psi at 2,000 rpm, 25 psi at 2,500 rpm, and so on ) . If the gauge is moving back and forth erratically at idle , i would say the gauge is bad. If it drops to 0 while accelerating I would say your oil pump is bad. If from time to time it seems to work and other times it seems not to work, I would say the oil pressure sending unit for the gauge is bad. If the pump failed you would start to here a Knocking noise from the engine in a short period of time. Use the above scenario's to narrow down what it may be.
